Top 250 Quotes From James Olsen

Lena: Morgan, what is this?
Morgan: I don't know. Looks weird. What, are you re-branding? I mean, hey, it worked for Prince, right?
Lena: I know you're behind this. It's more fearmongering, more of the same. You're so predictable.
Morgan: Lena, Lena. Lena, come on, it's Christmas. Where's your Christmas spirit? It's my favorite time of the year. The only fires I'm lighting are the ones I'm gonna roast chestnuts over. And if you think I had anything to do with going after you, which you sure as hell can't prove, my line of attack would be much, much more effective. Is that why you brought your bodyguard?
James: I'm here just to make sure that you remain... civil.
Morgan: Jimmy, I get the feeling your dislike for me is more than just purely professional.
James: You get feelings?
Morgan: I, for one, have work to do, so if you wouldn't mind, it's time to go.
[she and James turn to leave]
Morgan: Oh, hey, come on, look. Hold up. What am I thinking? Where's my manners?
[offering them coffee mugs]
Morgan: Little parting gift. Company present. I like to spread the cheer.
James: Bah humbug.

Kara: Maybe I put the "S" on too soon.
James: Kara, look at the window. Tell me what you see.
Kara: Buildings. Billboards. There's that bar where that guy cards me all the time. He knows how old I am.
James: I see a city full of people who need help. Who need a hero.
Kara: You really think so?
James: If anybody can fill Superman's boots... it's you.

James: Look, I don't like how we left things.
Kara: Yeah, neither do I.
James: Me pressing that button on my watch had nothing to do with you. It was me. I call him when things get tough; I always have. It's part of the reason I left Metropolis. My safety net became my reflex. I press that button when I get scared, and I was scared that I was going to lose you.
Kara: I really like that you care about me. You have to care enough to let me fly my own path, separate from his. Trust that I'm going to save the day.
James: Kara, you are amazing. You leap into the sky headfirst into danger. And you don't seem scared of falling.
Kara: Well, what's so bad about falling?

Morgan: Well, well, well. I thought Vironique's had a hard "no liberals" policy.
James: But apparently, they're fine with murderers.
Morgan: You know, Mr. Olsen, for a newspaper man, I'd like to think you'd be a little bit more considerate with your words. My lawyers can bury you alive for defamation of character.
Lena: I don't know.
[smirks]
Lena: Don't you have to have a character to defame?
Morgan: Ooh.
[grins]
Morgan: And the pot calls the kettle black.

Querl: Ben Lockwood is at the DEO.
James: But his wife's funeral is today.
Querl: I did not account for this. Alex just texted me moments ago saying she was dealing with a personal matter, and Colonel Haley's in D.C. trying to revoke Ben Lockwood's clearance. It's best I return immediately.
James: You think you can handle him?
Querl: The real question is can he handle me?
Nia: Be careful.
[holding up her hammer as Brainy leaves]
Nia: So... hammer time?
James: Not in the face, kiddo.

Winn: [notices pamphlet] Oh. Hey, where'd you get this?
James: [odd symbol] What's that?
Kara: It's the Kryptonian symbol for Rao.
Winn: [explaining to Jimmy] It's the God of Krypton.
James: Yeah, but what's it doing on the pamphlet?
Kara: That's what I've been researching all afternoon, and I can't find anything.
Winn: Just the time and address. That's kinda ominous.
Kara: Just how ominous it is...
[takes her jacket]
Kara: I'm about to find out.
Winn: Wait, wait. You're gonna... you're gonna go there?
James: We're coming with you.
Kara: I don't need your protection.
James: Mm... yeah.
Winn: We know.
James: We know.

Supergirl: Well, the building's all right. Everything's sound. But I can't speak for your reputation with your neighbors or Mr. Nelson's melted pint of Rocky Road.
James: So, that was your brother, the traitor?
J'onn: Yes. I'm afraid this is far from over. When our minds were joined, Malefic said I was still in the dark. Perhaps if I could access more of my memories, I might be able to uncover what his next move will be. Kelly, do you think we could go deeper with Obsidian's tech? Perhaps turn the energy up to 80 biohertz?
Kelly: That kind of power could reset your brain for good. We can't take that chance.

Lena: It just should've been a discussion.
James: What did you expect me to do, just sit here?
Lena: What if you'd have been sent to prison?
James: Yeah, about that. I talked to my lawyer. It's weird. I... no new charges. No indictment. The cops might even deputize Guardian.
[snickering at her expression]
James: I know, it's, uh... it-it worked out better than I could have imagined.

Kelly: They dress their patients in business attire in this hospital?
James: That's funny. No, actually, I got a clean bill of health from the docs about an hour ago, so...
Kelly: Why didn't you call me?
James: 'Cause you'd have wanted to take me home. And the world has turned upside down since I've been here, so I need to get to work. So...
[a loud noise triggers memories of the shooting; Kelly sees it's just a nurse's cart that tipped over]
Kelly: James, are you okay?
James: Yeah, yeah. I-I'm-I'm... I'm fine.
Kelly: You were shot. You almost died on the operating table. Look, this isn't a broken leg. You need to pay attention to what's going on.
James: Kelly, I said I'm fine.
Kelly: I'm a psychologist that specializes in trauma. This is my job.
James: And my job is to cover the Alien Amnesty repeal. There are thousands of Americans, the government's trying to take away their rights, and nobody's paying attention because Lex is out there. I just need to make sure that people know what's going on. So I need to get to work; I'll call you later.

Andrea: When Ms. Danvers won the Pulitzer, readership tanked. It gives a certain kind of impression that the paper is pedantic; it's heavy, it's dull, like homework.
Kara: That's insane.
Andrea: No, Kara, what's insane is branding a company in a way that causes people to click away from the site.
Kara: The news is not about clicks.
Andrea: Everything is about clicks. From Fortune 500 companies selling their wares to a new mom posting her child's birthday, today the measure of worth is on a click. To survive, CatCo needs to pivot. Attention spans have plummeted along with revenues. Readers want watercooler news that's just fun to read and just as easy to digest.
James: That, um... I'm pretty sure I can speak for everybody in the room when I say that if that is the kind of content that you wanna create here, we will walk. This is not what we signed up for.
Andrea: But it literally is. You're all on a brand-new, three-year contract. If you're not interested in helping me drive CatCo into the future, you are more than welcome to side roll out of the car, just as I am welcome to exercise your non-compete clauses. I'd hate to see such talent be driven permanently from the business. If your heart isn't in it, let me know. Well, that's it.
[raising her drink]
Andrea: Cheers to the future.

Winn: I thought male corsets went out of style in the late 1800s.
James: No, I was, um, I was shooting some hoops last night and bruised some ribs.
Winn: Mm.
[James groans when Winn pokes him]
Winn: You're a terrible liar, Olsen. So, I hacked into the security footage taken at the Federal Reserve that got attacked last night? The same place I told you about yesterday.
[showing him a screenshot, in which James' face is clearly visible]
Winn: It's a great disguise, by the way.

James: The way you pushed the president about her alien delegation selection was perfect. A reporter's job is to demand transparency. And with that said, I'd like you to talk to the cub reporters who are starting today about that.
Kara: Sure.
James: Yeah. And didn't Cat Grant recommend one to you?
Kara: Yes, her name is Nia Nal.
James: Well, Nia Nal's gonna need a mentor like you.
Kara: You're incredible, you know that? Everything you're going through right now, the D.A. possibly indicting you for being Guardian, and here you are worrying about cub reporters.
Lena: [waiting in his office as they enter] That's because he leaves the worrying about the D.A. to me.

James: You realize you have two donuts in your hands, and that those don't even go together?
Kara: Do I?
James: Yeah.
Kara: [putting them down] Okay. I may be eating my feelings.

James: Winn. You are a genius. The only person who doubts that's you. Question is, what do you wanna do?
Winn: I made a shrine to, like, a cup full of dirt from the future.
James: That's weird.
Winn: Shut... shut up. You know, and actually going to the future, yeah, that's, like, beyond my wildest dreams. But th- no, this is my home. Why... I-I have you and Kara, and Alex and J'onn. Like, you guys... you guys are my family. I can't... that's... that's... that's too hard.
James: [sighing] I took off my mask today.
Winn: Wait, what?
James: Yeah, I took it off. I... I met this woman with her kid, and she-she was in danger. Panicking. And there was nothing I could do to get through to her. So, I don't know if it was the humanity in my eyes, or-or my real voice. But after I...
[he pantomimes]
James: She instantly found her calm. And that makes me want to unmask all the time. But I get it, it's just... it does feel too hard.

Mackenzie: This came from a friend at NCU who applied for, like, a medical study a few months ago. He didn't get picked up, but...
James: [she hands him her phone] That address is to an L-Corp subsidiary.
Mackenzie: I know you said that my source for that last article was wrong, but you think it's worth taking a second look?

James: The newspaper might've been a bust, but good news. The best lawyer in National City has decided to take your mom's case.
Simon: For real?
James: Yeah, I wouldn't kid about that. And don't worry about her fee. I'll cover it.
Simon: Wow. When do we meet her?
James: I could probably set up a meeting with you guys next week.
Simon: You mean you won't be there?
James: Oh, no, no. I... this was a visit, Simon. I-I can't stay here.
Simon: Right. Of course, why would you? This town is a hellhole.
James: Hey, no, no, no, it's not like that.
Simon: No, it's cool. I get it. It's not your problem. Thanks for the help and the food. See you around.

Kelly: There's something off on your scan. Okay, part of what this tech does is it maps and catalogs your memories. Okay, these rings represent every year of your life; think of them like tree rings. You see these? They're broken. Have you ever had illness or brain trauma before?
J'onn: I've had many battles.
James: Didn't you also inherit M'rynn's memories? Maybe that's causing a rift in your own.
Kelly: Okay, we should rule out everything. And if you want, we can further explore the breaks. It might help us figure out a better way to stop your pain.
J'onn: Whatever you think will help.
Kelly: Okay. I'm gonna go in with him. Make sure nobody interrupts us.
James: You got it.

James: Here. From him.
Kara: It's the blanket he was wrapped in when he was a baby.
James: He's really proud of you. Me too. Now, don't you have a city to protect? You now... Up, up and away?

Tanya: I was a teacher. Linguistics and semiotics.
Kara: You helped Coville learn Kryptonian.
Tanya: He found me. I-I'd been saved by her. I... I just wanted the miracle to mean something. But when Reign came, the followers started making me translate his journal. It had everything he had ever learned about Krypton, and I was the only one left who knew how to read it. But what I read, it was like a recipe. Explosives.
James: Where's Coville now?
Tanya: He just vanished. The others were saying that he died serving Reign, that-that he's a martyr. They'd become fanatics.
James: And where are his... disciples now?
Tanya: [scribbling an address on a Post-It] This is where I ran away from.

Nia: I just wanted to mention how thankful I am. 'Cause, uh, I've been reading about Ms. Grant, and CatCo, and you. You know what we do up here is important, right? I-I've also been reading about matters of the law. Did you know someone could be prosecuted for continued instances of the same crime?
James: Yeah. I have a lawyer.
Nia: Of course. I'm not even saying you're thinking of taking up the shield again. But, if you were, especially with Supergirl down, don't.
James: Is this the same Nia Nal I'm talking to, the cub reporter who convincingly and rightfully convinced her boss to act? And to speak out when the innocent are being attacked?
Nia: I know. I don't sound like myself. But that's because this is different. If you go out there again, I have a feeling something bad will happen.
James: Heroes go out there, even when they know something bad's gonna happen. That's what makes them heroes.

Ben: You know, I was just talking about you on my show recently.
James: So I heard. And just to be clear, you and I do not represent the same things.
Ben: Hmm. Far be it for James Olsen to listen to an opinion that is not his own.
James: I listen to opinions that are not my own. But what I heard in your show was full of discrimination and hate, and that's when I stopped listening.
Ben: I see. So this is the part where you and others like you start making crass generalizations based on ignorance and stereotype.
James: And you forgot the part where people like me walk away.

Kara: James, I don't know what to do. Anndrannian cannons, Pytharian magma bombs. These are weapons that are far more advanced than anything we had on Krypton. Cadmus doesn't care who gets hurt in trying to make sure all aliens get a bad name.
James: Yeah, well, I'm sure you and the DEO will figure something out.
Kara: Don't sound so defeatest or anything.
James: I'm sorry. I just... I just don't feel like there's a lot that I can do to help behind Cat's desk.
Kara: You help.
James: I couldn't even save my dad's camera.

James: At least Aunt Vi's house hasn't changed.
Kelly: [gasping as she sees someone in the window] Malefic.
James: Wait here.
[going to investigate and seeing a group of kids running away]
James: Hey!
Kelly: [entering behind him] I saw some kids running into the woods. Were they stealing stuff?
James: [seeing the items in the room] I think they were doing homework.

Kara: Barry... is from another universe.
Winn: Cool! Whoa! Whoa! So, the-the theory of the multiverse, that's true?
Barry: True. Oh, yeah. Big time.
Kara: Yeah, I still can't believe it. And I'm from another planet.
Barry: [surprised] What?
Winn: Oh, yeah. She-she's an alien.
Barry: You're an alien?
Kara: Yeah.
Barry: So, do you have, like, other aliens on this Earth?
James: What-what do you mean by "this Earth"?

James: [in his memories] I'm at the Daily Planet?
Querl: Welcome to level one.
James: [seeing a news report about Superman] This is right after I met Superman. The first time Lex kidnapped me.
[an elevator opens and three people get off]
James: No, no, no. Wait, wait, wait. This is... something wrong. This is not how it happened that day.
Querl: The memories are folding in on one another.

James: There are more like me, and one day they will free this world.
Dark: That day may come, but you won't be here to see it. That flag died a long time ago.
James: Well, it still means something.
Dark: Yeah. It's a bulls-eye.
[puts an arrow in him]

Lena: Sam Arias is Reign. Supergirl knows, and... and so do the appropriate authorities.
James: So when you were telling me about your employee that-that couldn't accept her problem...
Lena: I was working to rid Sam of Reign, to free her.
James: But she put Supergirl in a coma. How-how did you keep her under control?
Lena: The last of Lex's Kryptonite. And... and don't worry, Supergirl knows about that, too.
James: And you're telling me this now, why?
Lena: Because I gambled everything. My reputation, Supergirl's trust in me, my relationship with you, on fixing Sam. And I failed. I really needed to hear your voice today, and I didn't want you to look at me like I was a Luthor.

James: Well, your mom's right. Somebody is definitely helping your dad out.
Winn: I just honestly just wish she would leave. Like, who the hell does she think she is, anyway, huh? Like, she doesn't just get to walk back into my life after twenty years. No, I did not get a say in her walking out. I definitely get a say in her walking back in.
James: It's a fair point.
Winn: Yeah. You-you think that I should?
[James shrugs]
Winn: No! Dude, no. Don't... don't think that I should.
James: Brother, it doesn't matter what I think. It matters what you need.

Kelly: [arriving in Calvintown] My god, what happened to this place? Is that a prison?
James: That's definitely new.

Kelly: Nervous?
James: Not at all. I've just canceled three times in my head already today, so there's that.
Kelly: Dr. Park is the best trauma therapist in National City. She practically wrote the book on PTSD. Still, it's-it's hard, I know. I have seen soldiers paralyzed over what you're about to do. I am so proud of you. And dad would be, too.

Winn: I gotta go. I've been... I've been searching for my calling, you know. This... this is it. I must save... save the future. What about- what about you?
James: I can't keep waiting on the world to change. My future's now.

[last lines]
James: Did I catch you at a bad time?
Ben: No, you just caught me in the middle of some car trouble.
James: Look, I've been thinking about what you said. Do you have time to talk?
Ben: Do I have time to talk? Hey, for you, friend, I got all the time in the world. What's on your mind?
[his Agent Liberty mask hanging nearby comes into focus]

James: You know how old I was the first time cops put cuffs on me? Seven. I was seven years old. My family and I were taking a vacation. And we were staying at this nice hotel, and, uh, my cousins and I, we decided to go out on the grounds and play hide and go seek. One minute, I'm-I'm trying my damndest not to be found, and in the next, I'm shielding my eyes from police lights. And these four huge cops, they came and they pulled us out of our hiding places. And-and the whole time we're saying "Wait, what are you doing? We're-we're-we're... we're staying here." But none of them believed that we were supposed to be there. None of them believed that we belonged. So my oldest cousin must have been about eleven, and I was... I was the smallest. But they slapped cuffs on all of us anyway, and my arms were so little they had to put 'em around my forearms. And then they marched us into the hotel lobby like a bunch of criminals. And my mom was there. And then they believed us. She kept yelling "Get those cuffs off my boys."
[choking up]
James: "Those cuffs."
Lena: James, that's horrible.
James: Yeah. Racism is the oldest form of bullying.
Lena: I'm so sorry that happened to you.
James: But when I became Guardian, I put that mask on... it-it was strangely liberating. But it was the first time in my life that I had the opportunity to be judged on my actions and my heart, not how I look.
Lena: You shouldn't have to wear a mask to be seen as how you really are, James. Just... it shouldn't be that way.
James: But it is. And it's like that for every seven year old boy who looks like me, but it's not gonna be like that if I have something to do with it.
Lena: You will effect change. You already are. Are you sure you wanna come out in the open?
James: I don't think anybody likes to be backed into a corner, especially not me. And I don't know how people are gonna react when they realize that their neighborhood vigilante is black. But there's just too much at stake for me not to.

Alex: The only reason they'd want to identify alien homes is to target them.
James: Yeah, but if-if they were marking houses, we would see that, right? I mean, we-we would notice that.
Manchester: The marks might not be visible to the naked eye. The mask had some kind of night-vision tech in them.
Kara: [Brainy retrieves a Liberty mask from his bag] Why did you bring that to dinner?
Querl: Oh. Uh... I figured if things got boring, I might just do a little work.
[popping a piece out from the eye-hole]
Querl: Oh, look at that.

Kara: Look, I know I said I wouldn't do the interview, but I'll do it. I don't want you getting fired.
James: I guess I shouldn't be surprised. You know, it's... been like this for a while. Back when I first started, I was... I was this nervous kid with his camera just trying to get noticed. And then one day, everybody knew my name. And not because of anything I did; not really. Because I was friends with somebody who was making a difference. I don't know, I just... I thought I could escape all that when I moved here. Be my own man, you know?
Kara: Back on Krypton, no one was their own man. Growing up, I was taught that to accept help from people is not a shame, it's an honor.
James: Your cousin never talks about Krypton.
Kara: He was a baby when we left. But I remember it. All the time. He ever tell you what that "S" means?
James: The House of El.
Kara: Yes, but... it also stands for a Kryptonian phrase, our family motto: "El mayarah". It means "stronger together". You say people will see me the way they see Superman one day, but... I don't want to be a hero like him. My cousin, he's so used to going it alone. He doesn't know any other way. But I do. I see it now. You, Winn, my sister; Ms. Grant, even. You've all showed me that.

James: So much around here has changed.
Kelly: [spotting a newspaper basket] Oh, at least one thing has changed for the better. Nelson Stewart? Isn't that the reporter you interned for?
James: Nelson taught me everything I know about journalistic integrity. Publisher? Yeah, way to go, Nelson. That's what I'm talking about.

James: [seeing Nia asleep at her desk] Working too hard already?
Nia: [jerking awake] Sorry. Um, coffee. Coffee. I need some coffee. Cof... I'm going to get some. Do you want some? Yes, you do. I will be right back.

Kara: It's Alex. I thought we were good after the mind wipe, but I was wrong. The way she spoke to me last night, to Supergirl... she was so cold.
James: She doesn't know that you're Supergirl.
Kara: I know. Didn't realize how much it would hurt. I mean, not knowing that my favorite movie is "The Wizard of Oz"? Eliza thought that I would relate to the adventures of a young girl being lost in a faraway land. It was... it was my favorite movie, because I was from a different planet. And now, Alex doesn't know that. Not anymore.
James: Yeah. It's gotta be tough. I'm sorry. That must be really hard for you.
Kara: What if the mind wipe has consequences that we didn't anticipate?
James: You can't think that way. Look, maybe the best course of action right now is to throw yourself into your work and just take your mind off of it.

Eve: Hi, Mr. Olsen.
James: Hey, Eve. Thanks for coming in.
Eve: Coffee, two sugars. Just how you like.
James: You remembered. Thank you, that's very kind.
Eve: Hey, anything for my favorite ex-boss. Don't tell Ms. Grant I said that.
James: I most certainly will.

Tom: I'm so sorry I got you involved in all this. They lied to me. I thought they were gonna give you an interview. I didn't know they were gonna use you.
James: [Tom offers a neoprene wristband] My gauntlet.
[he activates it, revealing his Guardian shield, then deactivates it]
Tom: [tossing him a Liberty mask] Come on. We don't have a lot of time.

James: Lyra, how long have you been on Earth?
Lyra: A couple years. But I learned English off-world.
James: Your English is impressive. But I'm actually a lot more impressed how well you speak "Winn."

Lena: Mr. Olsen. Come to tell Kara "I told you so"? Another Luthor takes innocent lives, news at eleven?
James: Ms. Luthor, despite our differences, I would hope by now that you would recognize that I see you as more than just an extension of your brother. However, I... I do think that you should get ahead of this thing. Which, in my opinion, I think you should step down from CatCo; so whatever we report, good or bad, comes off as truthful.
Kara: No, that would look like an admission of guilt.
Lena: No, Kara, he's right. Whatever's happening, whoever's responsible, this is a public crisis, and the public deserves to be able to trust the reporting so that they can prepare themselves. They expect integrity from us. They deserve it, and they need it now more than ever. Mr. Olsen, you will run CatCo until this is resolved. And I think I should also step down from L-Corp.
Samantha: Lena, we need you. We need you to help guide the research.
Lena: No, no. L-Corp has a brain trust that is more than capable, okay? If I'm involved, I could be accused of... of covering things up, or even profiting from the sick. This can't be like Flint, Michigan, okay? Where... where bureaucracy got in the way. Helping people has to be the focus.

James: Look, whatever happened to you, Lena had nothing to do with it.
Kara: Yeah, so why don't you just turn around and go accuse one of the other fifty people who despise you in this city.
Morgan: She shows up where I have breakfast, hangs out at the valet stand just a little bit too long, tells me to go, what was it, "burn in hell"? And then somehow, mysteriously, my car steers itself off the road, explodes into the water. Coincidence? I don't think so.
Lena: I don't put hits on people, no matter how much I despise them.
Morgan: That's right, you like to do the dirty work yourself. Here I am, sister. Why don't you man up and finish the job?
James: Why don't you find the exit, or I'll find it for you?
Morgan: You better get ready to finish what you started, because you wound me up, and I'm not gonna rest until it's over. And I never lose.

Nelson: Somebody get me a photographer. We got a celebrity sighting here.
James: Nelson, what's up, brother? How you doing?
Nelson: Jimmy Olsen. What the hell are you doing here? I hope you're not looking for a job. We can't afford you.

Tanya: You know Supergirl? I need you to get this to her.
James: What is this?
Tanya: It's Thomas Coville's journal.
Kara: How did you get this?
Tanya: I stole it from his cult. Can you get it to her or not? I thought you two were close. I think his followers are using it to make a bomb.

Kara: Sorry I'm late, but I come bearing gifts.
James: [accepting a bottle of vodka] Were you in Russia?
Kara: Kasnia.

Kara: Have you seen Mon-El? I mean, Mike?
James: I asked him to take this down to marketing, like, two hours ago.
Eve: [Kara hears them with her superhuman hearing] Mike, do you have protection?
Mon: Oh, you mean like a sword?
Kara: Ugh, God, get it out of my ears! Ew!

Lena: That's a low-spectrum enhancer. You use it to see infrared.
Alex: [taking it from Brainy] Here, let me see that.
[holding it up to her eye and looking out at the skyline]
Alex: Look, I see one right there.
J'onn: All right, so they're going to attack. Question is when?
Querl: Twilight's last gleaming. It's the title of their manifesto. Tells them when to strike.
James: Twilight's last gleaming is sunset.
Kara: Then we don't have much time.

Ben: I was just, uh... my table's in the back.
Lena: I doubt we're seated at the same table.
James: And this event is for members of...
Ben: The mainstream media? Yeah, that's probably why they seated me in the back.

Winn: And the cameras are officially disabled. You're welcome.
Guardian: Good work.
[taking his helmet off]
James: I don't know how anybody survived three Worldkillers in here.
Winn: Yeah, man, I am glad I wasn't there.
James: Yeah, cheers to that.

Cat: Do you think there's any connection between this hero and...
James: To my friend in blue? I don't know. I mean, not that he mentioned, but if she's anything like him, she's a hero. Saving people's what they're born to do. She'll be back.
Cat: She better be. This girl is the answer. She is exactly what I need to save the Tribune. Besides fatty foods, there is nothing people love more than a hero.

Kara: [showing James the article about Lockwood's presidential appointment] "An asset to this administration." It's unbelievable.
James: Yeah, the president is making some very strange decisions lately. The Lockwood appointment, satellite.
Kara: How do you...
James: Brainy told me. We get brunch.
Kara: Cute.

Kara: Ms. Grant sent me for layout, since she doesn't like to wait.
James: Well, she can wait a minute.
Kara: Have you met Ms. Grant?
James: Yeah, what's she gonna do, fire me right after hiring me? Her loss.

Newscaster: ...criminal known as Toyman to his fellow inmates escaped from the Van Kull maximum security prison this morning. Toyman got his name from the dangerous and...
James: [Winn grabs a remote from a co-worker and mutes the TV, then leaves] What's going on with him?
Kara: I don't know.

Lena: James, if you're doing this, I'm coming with you. I wanna stand beside you.
James: I really appreciate that. But you should continue working. Sam's life depends on it, right?

Bizarro: Supergirl loves you.
James: How do you know that?
Bizarro: Supergirl and me. Same.
James: Why don't you come closer, so I can see you?
Bizarro: No.
James: Why not?
Bizarro: Ugly.
James: You know, we... We all feel ugly sometimes. We all feel like no one loves us. Like maybe they never will. And you may not look like her now, but there is a part of you that still is Supergirl. I can feel it. And people don't love her because of what she looks like from the outside. I love her because of who she is. Because she's brave, because she's kind, and she always tries to do the right thing. And you can be the same. You're not a monster.

Lena: [Kara leaves in the middle of a conversation] Where is she going?
James: She's a reporter. She's doing her job. Now, did you think that I didn't want to be there, is that why you didn't tell me?
Lena: Well, to be honest, I thought you would be too busy to act as my chaperone.
James: I don't want to chaperone you. I don't consider myself a chaperone. I consider myself the person who's been running this company for a year.
Lena: All right, Mr. Olsen. I have a meeting with the advertising department in twenty minutes. I'll see you there.
James: See you in nineteen.
Lena: Twenty will be fine.

Supergirl: James, come on, see me!
James: [preparing to detonate the bomb] I do this in the name of humanity.
Supergirl: [faintly, as he notices the flashes of light from her heat vision] JAMES!
James: Supergirl?

Barry: So, all of these Earths occupy the same place in space, but they vibrate at a different frequency, so they can't see one another.
Winn: Yeah, yeah, but it-it's like if you can go fast enough, then it's possible to open, like, a breach, and then travel between worlds.
Barry: Yeah.
James: But how could you travel that fast?
Barry: Uh, well, um...
[he speeds out of the room, and returns with ice cream cones for all of them]
Kara: Yes!
Barry: Yeah, so, um, I was struck by lightning the same night a particle accelerator exploded. And I became a superhero.

Supergirl: What happened? Was there another attack at CatCo?
James: No, no, no. I-I'm sorry to bring Tanya here, but I figured with all the threats out there, this is the safest place for her.

Kara: You should've had my back.
James: Look, I'm sorry I told her, but I felt like it was important to be honest.
Kara: At my expense?
James: I really like her. And-and for this to move forward, I have to be honest about my life, about everything, about Guardian. And because I was, she opened up to me.
Kara: I'm really happy for you, James. I really am. But I can't be honest with Lena, and you know it.
James: You were straight with me.
Kara: My secret identity is there to protect people, and if Lena knew I was Supergirl, people might use it against her. For the past two years, I... I've had to be dishonest with her while she's been opening up to me. Lillian Luthor said it, and she was right. If Lena ever found out that I was Supergirl, she would be devastated, and she would lump me in with every other person in her life that's betrayed her.

Kara: That was my source at NCPD. They just salvaged Edge's car and there's no sign of tampering.
Lena: You think Edge did this himself? Why? To frame me?
James: No, Edge is crazy, but he's not suicidal.
Kara: Well, whoever hacked his car, it's above and beyond anything the NCPD has ever dealt with.
James: What about the guy who hacked Maxwell Lord's limousine and tried to drive him off a cliff?
Kara: Yeah, I... I thought of that guy, too, but there's no connection to Edge.

Winn: [entering James' office at CatCo] I used to be so terrified to walk in here.
James: Me, too.
Winn: You're really not going to stop, are you?
James: Nope.
Winn: [groaning] Oh... then God help me. I will help you.
James: What changed your mind?
Winn: I spent so many years sitting at that little desk out there, just creating firewalls, you know, and just... keep people from finding out the newest celebrity baby names or how much money Cat spent at Barney's, which is a lot more than you think. Like...
[scoffing laugh]
Winn: I wasn't really doing important work. Not really. And you're right, now I'm working at the DEO, I am, and it's... it's amazing. I... I get it. Being a hero, it's, uh... it's addictive.
[they share a laugh]
Winn: Plus, you know, I would feel bad if you went and got yourself killed when I could've helped you.

Lena: You okay?
James: Yeah, I'm just thinking about everything we heard at the media summit today.
Lena: Yeah. So hateful. I didn't realize how deep it went, or how ugly it was. You were right to want to disavow it.
James: I'm not sure disavow is the right move. Something Ben Lockwood said stuck with me.
Lena: What?
James: Maybe you can't change people's minds by slamming doors in their faces. And as a reporter, I need to get to the bottom of the story to figure out who these people are, find their leader. I mean, you told me yourself, these people are interested in Guardian, so maybe they'll listen to me. That's the way forward.
Lena: Sounds dangerous.
James: You kidding me? With you as my co-pilot?

Lena: Why do I feel like I've been hit by a truck?
Kara: Um... you were poisoned.
James: It was the coffee. Kara reacted very quickly, and the paramedics came and they gave you an antidote. They said you need to rest.
Lena: It was Edge, wasn't it?
Kara: Yeah.
Lena: Has he been arrested?
James: No. He didn't do it himself; he hired a hitman. And now that hitman is dead.
Lena: So Edge is gonna get away scot free again?
Kara: For now.

Kara: I'm... I'm still trying to figure out what being Supergirl means. Who I am. And now I know, I'm not Superman's cousin, I'm Supergirl. And if I'm gonna be defined, it's gonna be by my victories and my losses, no one else's.
James: I guess stubbornness runs in the family.

James: Look, I-I know how hard this must be for you...
[seeing her expression]
James: Okay. I know how bad Kryptonite is, and I've seen firsthand what it can do to you. And I can't even begin to imagine what kind of pain that must feel like. We have to get one thing clear, though. Lena is not Lex. I-it took me a long time to figure that out, but you're the one who made me see that.
Supergirl: The Lena I've known up 'till now has only been an ally. I want to believe her, but she lied about Sam. I have to know she's telling the truth.
James: What do you want me to do?
Supergirl: Not you. Guardian. I need you find out if there really isn't any Kryptonite left.
James: Kara, you're asking me to betray somebody that I really care about.
Supergirl: I really care about her, too. So let's put this to bed. Once and for all.

James: Hey, you okay?
Kelly: I'm having... visions. I thought they were in my head, but whatever happened at Obsidian, it didn't just allow me to see Malefic. I think I'm connected to him. I think I can see what he sees. And he has Alex. We need to go back to National City now.
James: We're not going back to National City. I mean, we came here to get you away from Malefic.
Kelly: James, when you put on that Guardian suit, do you think first? Or do you see someone in trouble and act?
James: That's different.
Kelly: The hell it is. We are going back, now.

James: Hey, Kara, what are you still doing here? I thought you already turned in your piece for the hospital closure.
Kara: I did. Uh, this is something personal.
Winn: Whoa. Hey, where'd you get this?
James: What's that?
Kara: It's the Kryptonian symbol for Rao.
Winn: It's the god of Krypton.
James: Yeah, I know, but what is it doing on a pamphlet?
Kara: That's what I've been trying to research all afternoon, and I can't find anything.
Winn: Just a time and address. It's kind of ominous.
Kara: Just how ominous it is, I'm about to find out.
Winn: Wait, wait. You're... you're gonna... you're gonna go there?
James: We're coming with you.
Kara: I don't need your protection.
James: Yeah.
Winn: Yeah, we know.

Lena: Mr. Olsen, I didn't expect you to be here.
James: Well, the news never sleeps.
Lena: How are you, really? I was worried about you.
James: Well, I'm kind of a hard man to keep down, Ms. Luthor.
Lena: You know, I have a rule. Whenever anyone take a bullet for me, they get to call me Lena.
James: [he laughs] Okay. Well, Lena it is. And, uh, my friends call me James. Or Jimmy.
Lena: [turning to leave] Well, feel better, Jimmy Olsen.

James: [after Winn chuckles] What's funny?
Winn: Oh, no. Just, uh, seen the way you look at Kara when she talks to her cool, new time-traveling superhuman friend. Because I didn't know your face muscles could make that look. Huh.
James: Oh, there is... there's no look.
Winn: [speaks theatrically with a deep voice and stretches out a hand towards James] Jealousy, thy name is Olsen.

Lena: I know this is scary, but maybe it's a good thing, you know, you coming out.
James: It's a little more complicated than that.
Lena: Why?
James: [leading her into an empty room] For one, I'm a black man.
Lena: But everyone knows that Guardian's a hero.
James: Yeah, but not everyone knows that Guardian is black.

Tom: I was so wrong. I thought if I joined the Children of Liberty, I wouldn't feel so...
James: Helpless?
Tom: I guess this is what happens when we let fear guide us.
James: Yeah. We both made choices that got us here, right? I mean, I asked for your help.
Tom: No. If you stay, if you blow up that monument, then everyone's gonna think you're with them. That you're a Child of Liberty. You're gonna give them the face they've been dying for, the legitimacy.
James: So what? That's what happens if I stay. But if I go and I preserve my reputation, you die. And then what, Tom? I'm lost. And you're dead. And then I am no better than him. And I'm stronger than that. I have spent my entire life building myself up into the man that I am today, and I have not given society one reason to doubt me. What is reputation? I mean, what is it? It's nothing. It's not who you are. So if the latest fringe group wants to tear that monument down, we will build it right back up. Agent Liberty can do whatever he wants with my reputation. I know who I am.

Woman: My son! My son is in there! My son's on the second floor. Please...
Guardian: You cannot go in there.
Woman: Please, I've gotta get him.
Guardian: No one will get hurt.
Woman: Get out of my way! My son, I have to get him.
Guardian: Listen to me.
[removing his helmet]
James: I will get him. You have to trust me.

James: What the hell happened to you?
Morgan: I survived.
Kara: Survived what?
Morgan: An attempt on my life. How about this? Why don't you try 1,500 words on how this deranged trust fund baby hacked into my car and tried to steer me off the edge of this damn city?
Lena: Wait, wait. You're accusing me of trying to kill you? Oh, that's rich.

Cat: [on her way past] The morning meeting was to begin sixteen seconds ago. You people were more punctual when you were drones.
James: Oh...
Cat: Scurry!
Kara: Later?
James: Later.
Cat: Today, please.
[goes off]
James: After the scurrying?
Kara: Yeah.
[they dutifully scurry after Ms. Grant]

James: I remember them. Billy New and Brandon Palmer. They taunted me, took my lunch money.
Young: My dad was a soldier. Have some respect.
Bully: [to his buddy] Let's say we show him some respect.

Lena: [when Morgan Edge takes credit for himself] Let's not forget about Supergirl.
Lena: Literally none of the heavy lifting could have been done without her.

James: [after a car nearly hits them] That was close.
Kara: Yeah, for their car.
[masked men jump out and run into a nearby bank]
Kara: Seriously? Right in front of Supergirl? I almost feel bad for them.

James: Just get Lord out of there. You don't have to take on Krull, too.
Kara: Krull is not some crazed alien. He is a human being, who's been hurt enough. And that's something my cousin never knew, and that's why I'm gonna go talk to him the way I would want someone to talk to me.
James: And if he doesn't want to talk?
Kara: Then I'll punch him real hard until he falls down. That always seems to work.

James: Lucy!
Lucy: James?
James: Are you okay? I heard what happened.
Lucy: Why would you run towards a bomb?
James: Because you're here.

James: Something happened with Reign?
Kara: No, actually, it's... it's Lena. Why did you tell her that Supergirl asked Guardian to go into her lab to find kryptonite? Now she has a problem with me.
James: She does not have a problem with you. She... she couldn't wait to see you this morning. She was talking about it.
Kara: She couldn't wait to see Kara, not Supergirl. She has a problem with... with Supergirl. Supergirl can't tell her that she can actually trust me because I'm her best friend Kara, but Kara can't tell her why Supergirl took it so personally that she was using kryponite behind her back because Lena doesn't actually know that I'm Supergirl.
James: You know what you said is really confusing, right?

J'onn: What happened?
Brainiac: [muttering to himself] Oh, yes, there it is. I see it now. The cure is designed to cure victims of the Blight. But because Pestilence is not technically the Blight but the forebearer of it, the cure we have needs to be modified to fight her particular strand of virus.
James: So how do we do that?
Mon: We need a piece of Pestilence's DNA.
Supergirl: So if we can't find her, more people could get infected, and the people that are already infected...
Brainiac: Yes, finding her as soon as humanly or non-humanly possible would be...
Supergirl: [Alex groans and collapses] No.
J'onn: Alex!
Supergirl: No, no, no! Alex. Alex!
Brainiac: ...imperative.

Supergirl: Seriously? He just keeps the key under the doormat?
James: It's a million tons of condensed dwarf star. He said only a select few can pick it up.

Barry: Look, we don't want any trouble.
Oliver: We just have a business proposal for Mr. Ramon.
Cisco: A business proposal. I'm gonna pass. You see, I like watching my people put a beating on other people, so...
James: So I guess we got that in common.
Barry: We've got this, right?
Oliver: Totally.
[they get thrown across a bar table]
Bartender: Oh! Is now an okay time to ask for a selfie?

Winn: You looking for Kara?
James: No. Looking for you.
Winn: [interested] Really?
James: I had some free time on my hands, and... I've kind of missed you from CatCo, man.
Winn: That's nice, and kind of weird, for you to say. Wait, wait. Is your computer frozen?

Ben: People are concerned, James. People have alien whiplash. I mean, I understand the Super cousins. They protect us, kind of. But look, the last three disasters this country has seen have all been of alien origin. Now, Guardian... Guardian, that's what I want to talk to you about. That is a symbol of human hope.
James: I want no part of that.
Ben: Do not shut these people out, James. Can't you see people who think this way, they're not crazy? They're scared. And they need those fears acknowledged, and when they are not, when they get shut down, like you're doing right now, it just... it drives them deeper into darkness.
James: Let me be very clear about something, Professor. You will not lay this at my feet.

Agent: [catching Tom trying to help James escape] Earth traitor.
James: [raising his arms in surrender] Stop. Stop. Stop it. Wait, wait, wait, wait. I'll do whatever you want. Just don't hurt him.
Agent: So, you see. I knew you'd heed the call.

James: Kara?
Kara: Oh my god... Cat was right. There is anger behind the anger.
James: Are there like extra emotions that I don't know about on Krypton?
Kara: No, no, I thought... I thought I was mad seeing you...
Kara: Seeing you and Lucy makes me think that I am never going to have what you two have. Someone who knows everything about me. My perfect partner at a game night.
James: Kara, you'll find someone...
Kara: Growing up on Earth, I never felt normal. And I always thought that if I started to use my powers, my life would make sense. But I'm realizing that... Being myself doesn't make me feel more normal. And it never will. Because my normal life ended the second my parents put me on that ship. And that makes me so mad.

Kara: Listen, I'm really sorry that I cut you off about Lucy earlier.
James: No. No, you... you were right. And, you know, you're just so easy to talk to, sometimes it's hard not to.
Kara: Apparently, Lucy feels the same way.
[seeing his expression]
Kara: We ran into each other at Noonan's.
James: And she talked to you about me?
Kara: She still loves you.
James: No, she doesn't. She ended it.
Kara: Because she felt you chose Superman over her. She was tired of coming in second. Look, I don't know anything about romantic love. I... I have not had the best luck with it. But if I ever really had it, I think I'd fight for it.

James: [in Lena's office at L-Corp] Wow. And I thought I had a nice view from my office.

James: Welcome to the Fortress of Solitude.

Lena: I booked you to go on "Counterpoint Daily" today. I think you should go on TV and disavow the Children of Liberty. I know you moved away from that idea, but things have escalated, okay? Their manifesto was filled with hate speech.
James: Yeah, I-I just wish that you would have checked with me first. I-I can't do that today.
Lena: Well, why not?
James: Well, after the mayor's event, I reached out to Ben Lockwood. And it-it took some time, but I got connected with some actual Children of Liberty. I-I'm meeting with them today.
Lena: You're meeting with a domestic terror group?
James: To learn who they are. And eventually get an interview with Agent Liberty himself. I mean, you said it yourself; these people admire me. Maybe I can use that to change minds.
Lena: I said that before they dropped their hateful agenda on the world.
James: All the more reason to go now, isn't it?
Lena: Well, it's all the more reason to think they might resort to violence, especially if they've got their human posterboy in their midst.
James: Human posterboy? You don't think I can do this, do you?

Camera: Remember, if you say anything off-book, if you so much as frown at the camera, I will not hestitate...
James: I know the rules. And you're sure that there's no one in that monument?
Camera: Cross my heart. Now stand in front of the detonator and say "cheese".

James: My whole life, I've been a sidekick. I have hidden behind my camera while my best friends wear capes, and they're heroes and they save people. And I want to do something good for the world. And I feel like I've waited too long already. Winn, you found the work that you're supposed to do with the DEO. I haven't; not here. But I feel like this is it.
Winn: I hate to break it to you, dude, but you don't have superpowers.
James: I know, but I can do this. We can do this.
Winn: Was that... "we"?
James: Yes, we. I mean, I have a black belt. And you're right. I-I don't have powers. You... you can make me a suit. You can build me a weapon, and together we can level the playing field. Come on.
Winn: Hmm, no. No. No! I can't do it.
James: You helped Kara.
Winn: There's a difference, okay? She can fly. You're just tall.
James: You know, watching my dad's camera get destroyed... it reminded me of something. He gave his life protecting this country. And if I do this, I can honor him.
Winn: Or you can end up just like him.

Winn: [being chased by a toy car] We got a thing on our twelve.
James: That's our six.
Winn: I'm very stressed right now!
[a small flamethrower mounted on top fires]
Winn: Literal Hot Wheels!

James: What's that?
Lena: Game night training.
[he laughs]
Lena: What? Okay, listen, some couples need to work on their communication skills, and others need to work on their competitive trivia skills. You and I are deeply connected, Mr. Olsen. We just need our game night performance to reflect that.
James: And you hate to lose.
Lena: And I hate to lose.

James: You know how I met Superman?
Kara: At the Daily Planet.
James: No, that's your cousin Clark. So, one day, I-I-I climbed up this bridge spire to get this angle on this tanker fire, and it was... it was beautiful. It was great. There was a lot of smoke in the air; I got light-headed, and I lost my footing, and I fell. And I knew for sure that I was gonna die, so I just... I prayed. I prayed to... to... to anything, to anyone who was listening, to save me. And then out of the smoke came this hand that grasped mine. And that was the first time Superman saved me. Same way you did Coville.
Kara: My biology absorbs solar radiation at a different rate than humans. What about that is miraculous?
James: In this life, prayer normally doesn't work. Nobody shows up. But Clark did. And you do. Kara, you're something that we can see, something that we can touch. How are you not a miracle?

Winn: What were you thinking, huh?
James: You wouldn't understand.
Winn: Well, then enlighten me. Because all I see here is a-is a crazy dude with a baseball bat and a ski mask and a death wish.

James: [meaning Superman] Anyone ever tell you that you look a little like him, right here?
[gesturing to her eyes]
Kara: No. Uh, no. No. You're the first.

Kara: You knew. This whole time. He told you.
James: Well, he knew that I was trying to expand my own horizons, so as a favor, he asked me to expand them here, in National City. Hang out. Be near you.
Kara: So... so... wait a minute. He... he wanted me to do this? Why didn't he just tell me?
James: Because he wanted you to choose it for yourself. Same way he did. It's what makes a hero, Kara.

Agent: I apologize for the blindfold. A necessary precaution; you understand.
James: Yeah, I get it. But I'm no threat to you. I came here on my own accord. To talk to you. To listen. I'm prepared to hear your side of the story. I mean, obviously, you have an agenda, but why? There has to be something. The core of your anger, something that's happened to you.
Agent: Something did happen to me, Mr. Olsen. I saw men struggling to remain relevant, to prove for their family. I saw human beings being treated less than they deserve. Less than exceptional.
James: Surely, there has to be a part of you that can find a commonality between aliens and humans. We just want good, safe lives for our loved ones.
Agent: No, we're not here to talk about my empathy, or lack thereof, for aliens.
James: Okay, you tell me. What am I writing?
Agent: You won't be writing anything. I'm giving you an opportunity to step in front of the camera for once, to *be* the story, to galvanize and to inspire. Because Guardian stands for everything that my followers strive for: human exceptionalism.

Querl: A mind palace is a hyper-real interactive space in James' mind. This device taps into James' temporal lobe, allowing me to map out his memories. Everything he experiences will be real and true. If James is able to identify and face his core trauma, he may be able to manage the attacks.
Alex: Do we know why the Harun-El is making the attacks worse?
Querl: Lena's drug was designed to attack illness. In this case, it was focused on the PTSD, heightening what would normally be just a panic attack. And since the drug also gives you superpowers, the attacks were causing the powers to be uncontrollable.
James: So you're saying even if I'm able to manage the symptoms, I'm still gonna have superpowers?
Querl: Yes. But you'll be able to control them. Now, shall we jump in?
James: Let's do this.

James: [Lena brought an overabundance of pizzas] Ms. Tessmacher!
Eve: [entering] Yes, Mr. Olsen?
James: We are gonna need your stomach on at least two of these.

James: So, when do I get to meet Agent Liberty?
Tom: You're talking to him.
James: You're Agent Liberty?
Tom: We're all agents of liberty.
James: I mean the big guy, the guy who signed the leaflet. I was hoping to get to interview him.
Tom: Oh, that's above my pay grade. I was just asked to show you what we do, answer some questions.
James: And this is what you do?
Tom: We patrol the streets, keep them safe for humans. Just like you do with Guardian. But this week is special. And we don't want any roaches crashing people's Thanksgiving dinners.
James: Roaches? That's pretty heavy langugage, and I would really appreciate it if you didn't call aliens "roaches" in my presence.
Tom: Well, that's what they are.
James: Or do you just classify them that way so you don't have to deal with the fact that they're living and breathing beings just like you and I?

Lena: You know, today was the second time you've saved my life. Beginning to be some kind of a hobby.
James: Right place, right time.
Lena: Yeah, well... I owe you a drink.
James: I wouldn't say "owe", but I'll... I'll take it.

James: Hey, have you seen the news? 63% of people now support repealing the Alien Amnesty Act. And that's after I published the piece about Cadmus and these other terrorist groups exploiting social media.
Kara: Yeah, Snapper wants me to write an objective piece about it. I don't know how I'm supposed to be objective when I know what they're actually up to.

James: I appreciate the fact that you're trying to help me; I do. But I-I don't need it. I'm gonna be fine.
Lena: Right, because you can handle it.
James: Yes, I can handle myself. I don't need you freaking out about every little problem that I have in my life! Now, take the D.A., for example. You got all worked up about that, and it turned out to be fine, okay? I'm going.
Lena: It was fine because I made it fine.
James: What are you talking about?
Lena: I talked to the D.A., James. I traded information on Bruno Mannheim, and she dropped the indictment.
James: You... you did what?
Lena: You heard me.
James: You lied to me.
Lena: I would do it again in a heartbeat. I love you, and there is no line in the universe I would not cross to keep you safe.
James: If that's what you think love is, I'm not sure if I want any part of that.

Kara: It's like Invasion of the Body Snatchers. That thing in Ms. Grant's office looks like Ms. Grant. She sounds like Ms. Grant, but... but she's being nice to me in a way Ms. Grant never would.
James: Well, just enjoy it while it lasts.
Kara: Yeah, I try, but it's hard to enjoy anything while there's a body double of me flying around the city, making me look bad.

Tanya: Oh, no, come on. Don't downplay it. You're Guardian! You're a superhero. And they still would've shot you.
James: You forget they did shoot me. In the face, with armor-piercing bullets.
Tanya: No, not the acolytes, the police. I've seen it happen to my father, my brothers. I just... never thought it would happen to Guardian.

Mackenzie: Supergirl really got him.
James: It's gonna be hard for Lockwood to come off reasonable now that everyone knows he's a psycho in a mask.

Kara: I was handling the situation.
James: Oh, yeah? What was your plan? To get yelled at and fired? Cause that was working.
Kara: I don't need you or anyone else fighting my battles for me.

James: Speaking of Lena, I got eyes on the vault.
Winn: Impressive, I know.
James: Yeah. It's almost as if she didn't want anybody to get in there.
Winn: Yeah, no keypads, no locks, no internal mechanisms, just thick, acetylene-resistant cast iron. But, hey, you got one thing Lena doesn't.
James: Yeah, what's that?
Winn: Me, you dummy. Come on. Well, technically, the, uh, pin-drop pulse bomb I built you, but I built it, so, technically, me.

Kara: I can't believe I didn't see it before. Andrea bought CatCo to get free global advertising for Obsidian North. And then this morning on the Jumbotron, an important story about the election was swallowed up by a gigantic Obsidian commercial. It's...
James: Well, speaking of the upcoming election, I got some interesting news last night. I got a call from a group of people who want to back me for senator.
Kara: Senator?
James: Yeah.
Kara: Well, that's incredible.
James: I never imagined going into politics.
Kara: Are you kidding me? We would all be lucky to have you in Washington.
James: I also have an offer to be the media director at the Smithsonian.
Kara: [he snickers as she stammers] Uh, so how long has it been since you left CatCo, what, twelve hours? That's...
James: That's the universe telling me I'm on the right path.
Kara: Uh, well, I think the universe is just telling me that I have to keep my spirits up and... and fight the good fight.
James: Your spirits do seem remarkably high for someone who strongly dislikes her new boss.
Kara: Well, that's thanks to Lena. I don't think I realized how burdened I was by lying to her. And now that she knows I'm Supergirl, and she's forgiven me, I... I feel a thousand pounds lighter. Like I can do anything. Bring it.

James: What's going on?
Winn: No, it's just ironic. After twenty years, I finally make peace with my mom and then I get infected by Pestilence.
James: You're gonna get better.
Winn: [as they talk, they both try to fight back tears] Maybe. Dude, I-I was attacked by a Worldkiller. There's no cure.
James: Hey, don't-don't-don't go there. Winn, you cannot think like that, brother.
James: It's just... this is just making me reflect on my life. Hey, you know what? After we re-connected, my mom and I, I hadn't realized, like, so much of my baggage was tied into her abandoning me. Like, all my life I never felt like I deserved anything. But you know what? I have done great despite circumstances. I made some true friendships. That has been the best part of my life. And now I can finally let myself imagine what I'd do if I could do anything. Like, if I could really be anything. Like, I could be the next Steve Jobs. Or I could make a rocket for NASA. I can build human transportation to another planet, show Elon Musk how it's done. Like, I could. Like, I'm-I'm ready. And I think it might be too late.
James: You are gonna do everything that you want.

Andrea: You were at the party when that big, weird hole opened, no? Where are the photos?
James: I believe Dardine at extension 506 has what you need. I got nothing. Now, I can go into a whole diatribe about why that is, but I know you like to keep things short and sweet, so... I quit.
Andrea: Are you sure about that?
James: Mm-hmm.
Andrea: You'll never work as a journalist again.
James: [turning to leave] That's part of the adventure.

James: [seeing Nia with an armful of coffee cups] Um... stockpiling for the great coffee war?
Nia: Uh... no, no. These are extras for friends.
Kara: [entering as the elevator doors nearly close] One more! Sorry. Thanks. Hey, James.
James: Hey.
Kara: Hey, Nia. Are those all for you?

Winn: Jeez. If that bullet had a little more stopping power, your shoulder would be a mess.
James: Yeah, that's what you said last time.
Kara: Edge riled them up. He knew what he was doing.
James: The shooter just found out that her son took a turn for the worse. Now, I'm not making any excuses, but she just went after who she thought was responsible.
Kara: What are you saying? You still think that Lena's responsible for what's happening?
James: I'm not saying that she did this, I'm just saying that maybe this happened because of what she did.
Kara: Semantics.
James: She jerry-rigged that device to do something it was never intended to do. Look, I know you don't want to hear this, but that device was invented by Lex Luthor.

Lena: So, what are you working on? I thought the issue went to print at 5:00.
James: Uh, that did, but, uh, now I'm trying to track down a... a gunman by using the weapon that he used. Clark did a, uh, an exposé on the gun epidemic for the Daily Planet years ago. And I'm trying to figure out how he was able to track a private sale of an assault weapon without a registry. So...
Lena: People don't like the government keeping track of the guns they own.
James: I-I never really understood that argument, that someone's right to own an assault weapon is more important than someone's right to go to school safely.
Lena: I have a gun for self-defense. I have used it for self-defense.
James: You're not telling me that you're one of these people that thinks that having a gun makes everybody safer, right?
Lena: We disagree, but I can see your side, and hopefully you can see my side, too.
James: I-I'm open to listening.
Lena: Good, 'cause things get done when we listen to each other.
James: Speaking of which, I can hear that pizza talking. That is a lot of pizza.

Cisco: Stop, stop. Stop! Jimmy, what are you thinking? What, are you gonna kill 'em here, now? Gary's still cleaning up from the last mess you made, Clockwork Orange. Do 'em out in the alley.
James: All right, come on, let's go.
Barry: Wait. Wait, wait, wait. I knew your brother Dante.
Cisco: Stop. Hold up. How'd you know Dante?
Barry: It's a long story. If he were here, he'd tell you to listen to our proposal.
[quietly to Oliver]
Barry: What's our proposal?
Oliver: How'd you like to get rid of Superman?

Winn: The woman of the hour!
Supergirl: [seeing the party they've prepared] You guys did not have to do this.
James: Oh, come on. Did you think we were gonna send you off into outer space sabbatical without the right send-off?

James: What the hell is that?
Mary: It's a message. For me.
[they see a skywriting message reading "Surrender, Mary"]
James: Is that a wicked witch?
Supergirl: No. Is it flying monkeys?

Lena: James, we're frolicking on our roof garden, sipping mojitos. Could you try not to look so miserable?
James: Yeah, I'm sorry. I'm just reading the Internet. There's so many people tweeting hate at the same time praising Guardian.
Lena: Okay, well, the Internet's a cesspool. You shouldn't read it.

Tom: Your work as Guardian has inspired so many of us to stand up and fight for justice.
James: Thanks, man.
Tom: Yeah.
James: What's your name?
Tom: Oh, yeah. Sorry, I'm just, uh... I'm a little nervous. Tom.
James: Tom, nice to meet you, brother.

James: What is that?
Mon: It's a plane.
Winn: No, it's not. It's a bomb!

Winn: Yeah, just, uh... just uh, set it anywhere, then walk, like, way far back, and then set it off. The door will open.
[no reply]
Winn: Hello, are you there? Did you do it? Are you in? James?
James: [choosing not to breach the vault] Yeah, I'm in. Look, Winn, there's nothing here. Lena was telling the truth. She's clean.
Winn: Well, thank goodness. I did not have the emotional bandwidth for another enemy, gotta tell you.

Supergirl: You are never going to be strong enough for this.
James: You do not get to decide... who is a hero. And who are you to tell me how to be? Or who to be? I am meant for this.
Supergirl: [shakes her head] If you don't stop, I'll stop you.
James: You're welcome to try.

Alex: Work has been crazy with Lena moving into the DEO this week. It's...
[realizing the sore topic]
Alex: That was... I'm sorry.
James: It's fine. I... no kid gloves needed.

James: Nervous about covering the march?
Franklin: I'm fine.
James: No, it's okay if you are, Franklin. I mean, we are living in crazy times, right? It's just important to remember what we do here every day. Reporting on events like this, taking the risk to show all sides, and showing the humanity there, that's nothing less than heroic. I mean, think about it. You fight injustice with your fists, you can help one, maybe a dozen people. But good journalism, that can impact millions. It's why we became journalists in the first place, right?
Franklin: Yeah. Thanks, Mr. Olsen.
James: No problem.
[Franklin turns to leave]
James: Franklin.
Franklin: Yeah?
James: You need a photographer?

Lena: You know, Reign was right. Scumbags like Edge need to be put down, okay? He wants a war, then he has got one. I'm the only one who can protect myself.
Kara: Lena, no, you are not a killer.
Lena: Yeah, Kara? Maybe you don't know what I am.
James: Well, hey, I know you. You're not thinking clearly right now, okay? We're not out of options. We have a lead, okay? We weren't able to find any fragment of the bullet, no exit wound, no shrapnel, nothing, no casings.
Kara: So it just vanished?
James: Yeah, it's some really weird futuristic technology. But if we can find out who can manufacture a bullet like that, we can find the shooter.
Kara: Lena, I give you my word, Edge will not get away with this again.

Boris: [getting roughed up by Alex] Anyone ever tell you you have anger issues?
Alex: I prefer the term "leadership skills".
James: Boris, we're looking for a girl.
Boris: Aren't we all?
[Alex slams Boris' head into the pool table]
James: I'd answer her questions, 'cause this table's not gonna get any softer, buddy.

James: You were right about Lena Luthor, and I was wrong. Sorry.
Kara: You were just trying to protect me.
James: Yeah, just like you're always trying to protect me.
Kara: Can we just stop trying to protect each other and go back to being friends? Because I really miss being friends.
James: Me too.
[pause]
James: Haven't had a game night in a while.
Kara: Game night sounds great!
James: Are you ever gonna let me win though?
Kara: Never.
James: Sounds about right.

Snapper: You're a textbook case of confirmation bias. You only side with those who confirm your already pre-existing beliefs and ignore anyone who disagrees with you. You're in the tank for superheroes.
James: I'm not in a tank for superheroes.
Snapper: Oh, please. As kids say, you're BFFs with Superman. You've assigned 18 front pages stories in the past month alone to Supergirl. You said it yourself, Olsen. The camera doesn't lie.

Lena: You wanna know why I'm not a killer? Friends.
Kara: Well, that's what friends are for. We get each other through the dark times, like you did with Mon-El.
Lena: Yeah, Kara... I saw Mon-El. He... he was here with Supergirl...
Kara: Yeah. It's complicated. I'll... I'll tell you about it.
James: [approaching] You guys okay?
Lena: Yeah, yeah. I'm actually better than I have been in months. You missed all the fun, Jimmy Olsen.

Querl: You two cannot be on the same team again.
James: I agree. Inside jokes, shorthand from Midvale. This is an unfair advantage.
Kara: So?
Lena: Hey, but, you know, maybe we have an unfair advantage, too.
James: [amused laugh] You could be right. Greatest human invention?
Lena: [answering simultaneously] The electric light.
James: Printing press.
Alex: Oh. Fail.

James: Everything okay?
Lena: Well, now that you're here, with a very large present...
James: I took this on our last morning at the lake house together. Open it, please.
[opening it, she finds a portrait of herself sleeping]
James: This is how I see you when we're away from everything else and it's just you and I. When it's perfect.
Lena: Let's go to Paris. Tonight. For Valentine's weekend, away from everything else.
James: You're serious?
Lena: Have you ever known me to joke?
James: [amused laugh] No. Um, no. But I've never known you to offer spontaneous trips, either. Are you sure everything's okay?
Lena: James, we never just live in the moment. You know, we should do that more. Because we never know what tomorrow's gonna bring.
[seeing he's still reluctant]
Lena: Come on, all right, listen. If your billionaire girlfriend cannot whisk you away for a romantic holiday, then there really is something wrong with the world.
James: The lady has a point.
Lena: The lady usually does.

James: Brainy, how many of those have you had to drink?
Querl: The ginger juice?
James: Uh-huh.
Querl: Twelve. You see, James, the ginger root kicks the booty of the immune system. It also strangely makes the roof spin.
[falling over, about to pass out]
Querl: Long live the Legion.

James: I'm gonna continue to be that crazy guy with the baseball bat and the ski mask, with or without you.
Winn: James, guys like us, we are here to... to give people information, right? To fight with knowledge. There is no shame in that, man. You... you gotta think this through. You're gonna get yourself killed.

Simon: Wow. Can't believe you came back. That you bought the paper.
James: [amused laugh] What can I say? I like a challenge. And who knows, maybe you and I could fix this town together. By the way, you know how to work a camera?
Simon: Like, on my phone?
James: No, not like on your phone. Like a real one. My dad gave me this camera. And now it's yours.
Simon: Thanks, chief.
James: Don't call me chief. It's Jimmy.

Winn: Okay, so I ran facial recognition. Thomas Coville, 44 years old, born and raised in National City. Definitely not an alien. No offense.
Hank: Any red flags, Agent Schott? Criminal records, arrests?
Winn: Well, he was pretty much a Boy Scout until about three years ago when his wife filed for divorce, and then his life fell apart. Uh, let's see... he was disbarred from practicing law after a series of misdemeanor convictions for public drinking and disorderly conduct.
Kara: I don't understand how that connects to Supergirl. I don't remember saving him. And trust me, I would remember.
Winn: That is right. Yes, you did not save him as an individual, but I looked into mass emergencies that Supergirl intervened in; you know, burning buildings, colliding trains, the ushe... and I dug a little deeper. Thomas Coville was on Flight 237.
James: What's so important about Flight 237?
Kara: It's the flight Alex was on that I saved. The night I became Supergirl.

James: Any luck on figuring out who's behind the Toyman attacks?
Mary: No, but we've discovered a thousand ways how not to make a flying monkey.
Winn: And also a few ways to make better flying monkeys.
Mary: Oh, the wiring on these is amateurish, at best.
Winn: Alas, we are no closer to finding out who actually built them.

Alex: Brainy, what is going on in there?
James: [he re-enters James' memory] That's me.
Kelly: [he wakes up] What happened?
James: I saw dad.

Kelly: Who would mind wipe you?
J'onn: Only another Martian would be strong enough. But wiping a Martian's mind is the greatest sin in Martian culture.
Kelly: Well, we could rebuild your memory based on what you already know. Repairing the break could also help ease your pain.
J'onn: I'm not sure I can face what's inside that void.
James: J'onn. I... I know that looking into your past can be terrifying. When I did it, I thought I might lose myself for good. But Kelly was right by my side, and I came back stronger.
J'onn: Give me those contacts.

James: So, how long you been living in my aunt's house?
Simon: Couple months. Sometimes we crash with friends, sometimes we just camp out in the woods.
James: Where are your parents?
Simon: Haven't seen my dad since I was... five? My mom got busted last winter stealing a space heater from the hardware store. The judge wouldn't even give her a chance to explain. They gave her ten years for stealing a thirty bucks heater.
James: Since when does petty theft get you that kind of time?
Simon: It's a racket. The cops, judges, lawyers, everyone's in on it. They keep the prison full, the prison keeps their pockets lined.
James: How's nobody stood up against them? Called these guys out?
Simon: Like who? Nobody's gonna speak up and risk themselves. Anyways, you can't beat the system, so what's the point?
James: There is a point, Simon. You have to stand up and fight against injustice.
Simon: Everyone's just out for their own skin. It's the way it is.
James: Not on my watch.

Supergirl: When you are an alien, you are willing to sacrifice anything, everything, betray your fundamental instincts... just to fit in, to belong somewhere, to find your place in this world.
Lucy: [smart uniform, arms folded] If you have a problem fitting in, it's because you lie to people about who you really are.
James: Lucy, are you really willing to let Hank become a science experiment? And... and who knows what they have planned for Alex?
Supergirl: I know you're feeling betrayed and alone, but if you go along with Jim Harper, just to feel like you fit in, to feel like you belong somewhere, ultimately the only person you're betraying is yourself. It wasn't easy for me to show you who I really am, but I did it because I trust in who you are, who you really are, under that uniform. And I trust you'll do the right thing.

James: I have my shield on me. I can help you find Mercy and Otis.
Lena: No. If you go out as Guardian, you'll be arrested.
Alex: She's right. We already have enough boots on the ground.

Querl: By George, I think we've got it. We stumbled upon your core trauma, James. And surprisingly, it isn't a Lex Luthor murder attempt. It's your father's death.
James: Brainy, you said that whatever I saw in your mind palace was gonna be based on real memories. I wasn't at our father's funeral.
Querl: Yes. You were. Incontrovertibly.
Kelly: No, Brainy, he wasn't. I was alone. That is not something you forget.
Querl: Consider the possibility that James was there, and you, Kelly, did not see him.
James: I was across the street. At a diner. I got locked in the bathroom and nobody could hear me. By the time the manager opened up the door, his funeral... his funeral was over.
Querl: Perhaps that is merely a picture of the truth that got framed and hung in your mind. An excuse you invented that, over time, even you came to believe. The mind will play tricks to protect itself. Think of memories like a watercolor. While you're painting, the colors blend into each other without clear borders until they grow opaque. Once the painting dries, the picture is set.
Kelly: Yeah, I'm sorry, I need a break.
Querl: [she leaves] Was it my metaphor?

Lena: [watching Sam in her medbay bunk] She's gonna come through this, right? She's gonna be able to fight Reign.
James: No doubt in my mind.

Nia: It seems scarier now that they've trained dogs to identify aliens.
James: They have?
Kara: Yep. Actually, the guy Supergirl fought the other night had a dog.
Alex: What are you thinking, James?
James: Tom and I were walking his dog yesterday, and-and the dog kept barking at certain houses.
Nia: Alien houses.
J'onn: Did they mark them somehow?
James: I mean, he-he kept texting somebody who he claimed to be his wife, but I... I guess he could have been texting somebody else to-to mark those addresses for later.

Kara: Can I help you?
Andrea: Not unless you brought a light meter. This office is in dire need of solar window treatments.
Kara: I'm sorry, who are you?
Andrea: Oh, my god, I am so rude.
[shaking hands]
Andrea: Andrea Rojas. And you?
Kara: Kara Danvers.
Andrea: Kara? Such a pleasure. I'm a big fan.
Kara: Oh, that's very kind of you. Uh... and did you say Rojas, as in Obsidian North?
Andrea: The one and only.
Kara: Right. Uh, well, I'm sorry, Ms. Rojas, I think the elevator dropped you off on the wrong floor. Obsidian's one down.
Andrea: Oh, my goodness. Lena didn't tell you, did she?
James: [entering] Didn't tell her what?
Andrea: James Olsen. I am glad you're here. I'm a big admirer of yours. So don't think for one moment that I won't find a place for you here.
James: [confused] Find a place for me here?
Andrea: I bought CatCo. Actually, I bought the whole building, but CatCo is the major acquisition. And I'm taking over as editor-in-chief.

Kara: [seeing a picture of Superman flying through the air] I've seen this picture, like, a million times. It won a Pulitzer. Wow.
James: Yeah. Only because it was the first real shot of him. Little secret, he actually posed for that. Guess he liked me.
Kara: Oh, my god. You're Jimmy Olsen, the photographer from the Daily Planet.
James: James Olsen. Well, "Jimmy"'s reserved for my mom and the big guy. He's kind of stuck in his ways.

James: How you doing, buddy?
Winn: You should be at CatCo.
James: It's called delegation. I've got every reporter in the building working on this. Which... which actually reminds me, the city is pretty panicked about this. So if you have any information I can disseminate, that would be helpful.
J'onn: Doses of the cure are on their way to all the hospitals.
Supergirl: And the Worldkiller is still MIA.
James: Yeah, but now that Winn is infected, doesn't that give us another lead?
Brainiac: Yes. The scratch on your hand seems to be the point of infection.
Alex: [slapping his hand away] Don't touch that.

James: Now, listen, guys, I don't care if it's 500 or 5,000 words, the most important thing that we can do is to report everything that we can find on each candidate. That way, our readers can make an informed decision.
[seeing Kara pass by]
James: And if you dive deep, maybe you too can win a Pulitzer.

Kara: My instincts were all over the place on this one. Didn't know which way was up. Still not sure if I do.
James: Yeah, I know the feeling. I got this story I'm not sure if I should pursue myself. How'd you figure it out?
Kara: Examined my motives. Made sure the decision I was making was for the right reasons and not the selfish ones.
James: I guess that's all we can do really, right?
Kara: [glancing at the Lockwood article] Yeah. Speaking of which, I've got another article to write.
James: Type fast.
Kara: Superspeed.

James: I know you, right? You're one of the kids from before from the house.
Simon: Uh, yeah. So?
James: So, you have a name?
Simon: Simon Kirby.
Kelly: It's nice to meet you, Simon. I'm Kelly.
James: I'm James.
Simon: I know who you are. I read the news. CatCo. Guardian. Duh.

Ben: Dreamer! You're coming with me.
[James catches his fist, crushing the bones in his hand, and crumples the barrel of his gun]
James: Get out of CatCo. Now.
Ben: Not without the alien.
James: What alien? All I see are journalists exercising their right to freedom of speech and doing their duty to uphold freedom of press. So unless you're gonna re-write the Constitution, get out now!
Ben: I don't know what happened to you, or how you did this. But I'll find out.
[to his agents]
Ben: Come on!
[he turns to leave, then stops]
Ben: Oh, and I will find this... Dreamer.

Kelly: This is nice, you in my office.
James: Well, I'm not so sure if I actually have an office anymore.
Kelly: Yeah, I, uh, ran into Kara in the elevator, and I had to tell her that I couldn't join her crusade against my new boss on my... second day?
James: Yeah.
Kelly: I'll support whatever you guys decide to do. Just mostly in the abstract.
James: I'm just really proud of the company that we built over the last few years. It's a strong, serious, hard-hitting news organization that actually affects people's lives. Whatever this vision Andrea has for CatCo, I don't recognize it. And I don't think I can play that game.
Kelly: Then don't.
James: What do you mean?
Kelly: CatCo and journalism isn't all that you are. You started helping people long before dad put that camera in your hand. And, look, I know that you think that you have to muscle your way through everything. But, for once, just take a step back and ask... what does James Olsen want?

James: You realize you're turning into Cat, right?
Kara: What? No.
James: To a "T". It's kind of freaking me out. You just said "tick tock". You might as well have said "chop chop".
Kara: Did I say that?
James: You... you did.

Lena: Do you mind if I stay here and work with you? I've got a ton of reading to do.
James: Anybody who brings a mountain of pizza into this office can stay for as long as they want.

Lena: I'm really glad I can tell you my secrets now.
James: Of course you can. Me, too.
[her window suddenly shatters]
Reign: Where is the child? Where is Ruby Arias? Where is she...
Lena: [repelling her with a Kryptonite aerosol] You'll never find her.

Lena: James, I'm worried about this thing with the D.A.
James: Mm-hmm.
Lena: Listen, I know you have your strategy, but I was speaking to my friends in the mayor's office, and they said the only path out of this is to use some leverage. They think the D.A. can be swayed, so I was thinking that maybe I...
James: Lena, please, I don't want you pulling any strings for me. You've tried really hard to separate yourself from the criminal element in your family. Don't get mixed up in this. We'll handle the D.A. Look, I love the fact that you want to fight for me. I do. But the only thing that I need right now is you by my side.

Thomas: Welcome, Children of Rao.
James: This is starting to feel a little...
Winn: Culty?
James: Yeah.
Thomas: We're here, all of us, by her grace. We're here together, standing in the light, for just one reason. We're here because Supergirl saved us.

James: Should've never let Tanya go.
Lena: Wait. Wait, wait. If they use the rock, then it will give off an energy signal.
Winn: Which we can scan for.
James: Wouldn't that get us there after they've already made a Worldkiller?
Supergirl: Don't worry. There's a reason we sent Mon-El with her. He's smart, tactical, he's a Legionnaire. If anyone can find us a signal, it's him.

James: [entering Lena's office] Slept here again, huh?
Lena: I don't really have much choice.

Kara: [watching Lucy Lane in Cat's office] That was a genuine laugh. That was not fake, that was real.
James: What do you think they're talking about in there?
Winn: Kara does have this handy ability called superhearing...
Kara: Yeah, but that just feels wrong, doesn't it? Is that wrong?
James: [whispering] Do it.

Kara: What's wrong? Why'd you use the signal watch?
James: You didn't get that article in.
Kara: You... you beepered me for a deadline? That watch is for emergencies only.
James: I know what the watch is for, but th... this feels like an emergency.

Lena: It's been two days since the world saw Supergirl be brutalized, and still not a word about her whereabouts or well-being.
James: She'll turn up.
Lena: I hope so. And Kara's the only reporter who had a knack for tracking her down. Is she in yet?
James: Kara? She... no, she's, um... no, she's not, actually.

Jacqueline: I have your mother, but you can trade your life for hers. She's hanging around at the old Wiggins Game Company factory. But hurry, Junior, the pressure is on.
Mary: Winn, don't come here.
Supergirl: I'll go.
Mon: Me, too.
Winn: Not without me.
James: That's exactly what she wants.
Winn: I've spent my entire life trying to fight off the part of me that's like my dad, but now... now I can use it. Let's go.

James: You lost your powers. Solar flare.
Kara: I did not know we were calling it that.
James: He does. Well, he likes to name them. You know, heat vision, freeze breath...
Kara: He's such a nerd. I don't know, today, I'm less Girl of Steel and more Girl of Stucco.

Thomas: Now, many of us don't get second chances at life. Many of us stay lost. And I'm not talking about driving around in circles because you are running out of gas and you have no GPS. I'm talking about being spiritually lost and needing to find your way back home, like Olivia. Don't be shy. It's okay.
Olivia: Hello. Uh... well, it was, um... it was spring break when I caught my boyfriend cheating on me with my best friend. And I... I took it hard; snuck into a rooftop party, and I got totally wasted, and I stood on the ledge as a joke. And the next thing I knew, I was falling. And as I fell, I thought "I hope, if this is it, that it's quick." But it wasn't quick, and that fall lasted an eternity. And then she caught me, and she told me that everything is gonna be okay. Because of Supergirl, I realized that I still deserve to be loved. Supergirl saved me.
[applause]
James: Do you remember saving her?
Kara: I... I remember all of them.

Winn: Even if, even *if*, my dad had threatened to kill me, she could have done a thousand other things. Gone to the police, the FBI. No. Instead, she decided to abandon me. And you know what? She has to deal with the consequences. I don't... you know, if-if she'd have stayed, then, maybe, you know, we could have had a... you know, a great relationship.
James: Let-let me stop you right there. That is a dangerous thought exercise designed purely to just piss you off.
[Winn continues to tinker in silence]
James: When my dad died, my mom did everything for me and my sister. She worked night and day, she busted her ass, and I still blamed her. Because she was the only one there. And that was rough. We got over it, though. You know, took a long time, and a lot of forgiveness, and me taking responsibiity for my part in that. You can't change what happened, but she's here now. It's up to you what you wanna do with that.

James: I get that I should be grateful. And I am.
Dr. Park: But?
James: But I'm pissed. I know I need to be here, but this just feels... I'm Guardian, and I protect people. And people look up to me when...
Dr. Park: Do you feel like you don't deserve help?
James: I feel like I shouldn't need help. I feel like I should be strong enough to just get over this. Of course, if you have a magic pill, I'll take it.
Dr. Park: Sadly, this process takes time. For today, I can give you a starting point to deal with anxiety or any negative feelings that may come up. A calming tool.
James: Okay, sure.

Eve: Could I get either of you anything?
Lena: You know, Eve, I could really do with a cup of coffee. This article on spontaneous fishing is seriously dry.
Eve: Is that the one by Forrester? "Scientific Universe Journal"?
Lena: Yeah.
Eve: You need to check out Jen Steinmetz-O'Grady's work. I studied with her at Yale. Her brain is...
[pantomimes the "mind blown" gesture]
Eve: ...beyond. I'll be right back with that coffee.
Lena: Did you know Eve studied nuclear physics?
James: There is nothing that surprises me about Eve anymore.

James: Ms. Luthor, um... you approved an advertorial on page six.
Lena: Is there a question coming?
James: Well, I... I just wish you would have told me first.
Lena: I didn't know ads were in your purview, Mr. Olsen.
James: Well, they're... they're not... they're not not in my purview. It's, like... it's not a big deal. It's just that if we're gonna disguise ads as articles, I think that it sends a bad message. I mean, people want to know what they're getting, you know? They... they expect integrity from us. Just a perception thing.
Lena: 70%.
James: Excuse me?
Lena: That's the deep discount on our print subscription rate, 70%. It's what it takes just to get people to read, so I think an advertorial here and now is a necessary evil.

Supergirl: Where are J'onn and Dreamer?
Querl: It appears they're in the middle of a riot. But what's worse, the alien power being collected in this factory, Lex has it set up to be discharged into a Claymore satellite.
Supergirl: Claymore? I... I destroyed that.
Querl: This appears to be a newer, bigger, better Claymore.
James: Can you tell where it's targeting?
Querl: The target is in deep space. Argo City.
Supergirl: He's gonna wipe out my family.
Querl: I may be able to hack into the power core to stop it.
Supergirl: Good, do that. We'll help J'onn and Dreamer.

Winn: I am very excited to meet Alex's new mystery man.
James: Hey, do we know what he does for a living? Alex's guy?
Kara: Cop.
Winn: Yeah, no way Alex Danvers dates someone who doesn't own a firearm.
[Alex and Maggie arrive]
Alex: Hey. you guys. Hey, um, you all remember Maggie, right?
James: [after comprehending that Alex and Maggie are dating] Hey, yeah, good to see you again.
Winn: Alex! I... I didn't know.
[points at Hank]
Winn: Did you know?
J'onn: Of course I knew. I'm psychic.
Alex: How come you never said anything before?
J'onn: It's not for me to say. Good for you, Alex.

Lena: To saving the world.
James: Hear, hear.
[his phone rings]
James: Mm. Excuse me.
[answering the call]
James: Yeah. Oh, I have a comment. I'm the Guardian.

James: I knew Ms. Grant was meant for great things, but National City's gonna miss her.
Kara: Best press secretary since Robert Gibbs.
James: Yeah, she makes Gibbs look like a hall monitor.
Kara: Yeah. With Ms. Grant in D.C. and Snapper on sabbatical, it's going to be oddly congenial around here.

James: Before you came back from Argo, Lena figured out that she could end Reign, with a lethal dose of Kryptonite. Now, she wouldn't do that when Sam and Reign were connected. But now...
Supergirl: No. I don't kill. Not even her. There's gotta be another way.
Alura: What way? You can't contain her. You said she's grown invincible to everything that would normally hurt a Kryptonian. Look, sometimes, the thing we thought we'd never do, the thing that goes against our very core, is the one thing that we must do.
J'onn: If all else fails, and we have no other recourse, I agree. We do what we must.
Supergirl: [reluctantly] Okay. Whatever it takes.
J'onn: Send Mon-El and the Legion the coordinates to my ship. We'll meet them there.

Lena: [watching Edge's press conference] Sociopathic cockroach.
James: He'll get what he deserves. Guys like him always do.

Kara: Okay, come and get your eggnog.
Alex: Uh, yeah, but be warned, this is not your grandmother's recipe. No, this is highly potent, intoxicating deliciousness.
James: Ooh. Danvers' famous eggnog?
Lena: Um, sounds tempting, but you know, I think I'll stick with the Scotch.

Nia: [jerking awake at her desk] Chocolate-covered espresso beans!
Kara: Nia? You feeling all right?
Nia: Oh... oh, no... Oh, no. Please don't fire me.
James: Oh, no, no, no. No, no one's gonna fire you. I mean, you do amazing work, when you're... awake.
Nia: Uh, I'm sorry I didn't say anything before, but I have that sleep thing. The one that causes you to fall asleep at random times.
James: Narcolepsy?
Nia: Yes! That's it. Narcolepsy.
Kara: Oh, good... well, Nia, that-that's a serious illness. Have you seen a doctor?
Nia: Yeah. Yeah, back in D.C. I haven't found anyone here yet.

James: Hey, so, we're alive.
Lena: Yeah, well, thank god I was here.
James: You okay?
Lena: It's just my quarterly assassination attempt.
James: Yeah, about that. Who the hell is this guy?

James: What's on your mind?
Nia: You may not know this about me, but I am a transgender woman. I know what it's like to be... attacked and denied because of who I am. When I saw that alien being attacked, I couldn't let it pass. I... I had to stand up, hold a mirror to that bully's face. And I made a difference. And that was just one person. You are the Editor-in-Chief of CatCo Worldwide Media. You can hold a mirror up to the entire city. We have to show people that violence against aliens is not okay, and that the only way we are going to survive is if we start truly seeing each other.
James: Thank you for sharing your truth, and your passion. But there's something else that I want you to understand, too, is that our readers that share our values already know that we support aliens.
Nia: Well, what about the others?
James: We're trying. We're-we're reaching over the aisle. If I editorialize too soon, they're just gonna call us biased. They're gonna prejudge us. Look, I've been doing this a long time, and the only way to reach people is through balanced reporting.
Nia: When innocent people are being attacked, it's not about balance. It's about justice.

James: So, uh, a few weeks ago, I had a report put on my desk, um... that detailed a black budget at L-Corp. Normally, I would be digging into this myself, but I figured with the nature of your relationship there...
Eve: You figured you'd ask me first?
James: It's probably easier.
Eve: Um... obviously, this is something I'm going to have to talk about with Ms. Luthor. But there's nothing to worry about. The black budget is a tool we use to shield proprietary science from our competitors.
James: So nothing's off?
Eve: Mr. Olsen, you and Ms. Luthor are in... a rough patch.
[as he laughs dryly, she indicates the television newscast behind him]
Eve: Look at it out there. Lena's trying to help make that reality better. Still, with her approval, I will e-mail you the budget, so you can see for yourself. But I promise, we're one of the good guys.

James: You want me to inspire your followers? And how exactly do you want me to do that?
Agent: I want you to destroy something. A monument, something that stands against everything we believe in.
James: I don't tear things down. That's not my style.
Agent: I get it. You're not a willing participant yet. But you will be. I believe in you, Mr. Olsen.

Cat: James, I was wondering how the hunt for the interview with Supergirl is going.
James: Uh, she's doing a little better, so I... I wasn't sure if you were still interested in controlling the story.
Cat: Oh, I want a sit-down with her, before the Planet. Maybe I was beating around the bush too much earlier?
James: No, you were... pretty clear.
Cat: The "S" is not some "Who wore it best?" fashion faux pas. It's a team logo. Maybe Supergirl is his sister, maybe it's his girlfriend...
[listening with her superhuman hearing, Kara wrinkles her nose in disgust]
Cat: ...but there's definitely a connection. And because you are famously his pal, I have to wonder why you haven't exploited that relationship to get me what I want.
James: I have a policy against using my friends for business reasons.
Cat: And I have a policy against losing. Whose policy do you think means more to me? Now, I get it. You're an honorable guy. So I'm asking you to do what's right by me and this company and get me in a room with that girl. You have twenty-four hours.
James: Or?
Cat: Or the Planet gets their beloved photojournalist back.

Alex: [cleaning James' wounds] You're lucky you didn't take a direct hit.
Kara: Very lucky.
James: I had my shield. I love that shield.
[Kara gives him a pointed look]
James: And I know what I'm doing, Kara.
Kara: Even if Metallo is weakening though, he's still a fanatic follower of Lillian Luthor. We have to find out where he's taking Lena and how to help her.
James: What is it gonna take for you to realize that Lena is a criminal? She's not the victim. She got the kryptonite. He broke her out of prison.
Kara: Lena's not a member of Cadmus! She's not! She stopped the gang with alien weapons. She saved Alex's life when Corben tried to kill her.
James: She shot Corben and then her crazy mom turned Corben into Metallo, so that could've been the plan the entire time.
J'onn: We have to start treating Lena Luthor like a hostile. The evidence is too overwhelming.
Kara: Winn? If you watch that video, I know you'll find something.
Winn: I did, it's... it's clean.
Kara: Then find something to prove her innocent.
J'onn: Everything we've seen so far says the exact opposite.
Kara: Well, she's my friend and I believe in her.
[leaves room]
James: [follows Kara out the room] I'm your friend. Which is why I don't understand why it's so hard for you to believe me. People don't remember this, Kara, but Clark and Lex Luthor used to be best friends. For years and Clark believed in Lex for the longest time, no matter what people said, no matter what kind of proof he saw with his own eyes. No, Lex was his friend. But Clark was wrong.
Kara: Lena is not Lex.
James: But they grew up in the same house, Kara. I don't understand why you keep defending her. And you have so much faith in her, but none in me as Guardian.
Kara: That's entirely different. I am trying to protect you.
James: I do not need your protection. I need your trust. You have mine. I don't understand why it's so hard for me to get yours.

James: Well, I'm just happy that you're safe and the three of us are back together.
Supergirl: Me, too.
James: But I think we should talk about that thing that happened, uh... right before Myriad struck.
Supergirl: The thing.
James: Yeah. The thing thing
Supergirl: [realizing] The thing.
James: Hmm.
Winn: [understanding] Oh, this thing has nothing to do with me. All good. I got other things.
[leaves]

James: I can't stand Lucy's dad.
Kara: I can't stand him either.
James: I hate how he gets involved in our relationship, and I'm not holding Lucy back.
Kara: I can't stand the way Cat treats me.
James: And I really cannot stand how he talks about your cousin.
Kara: I hate how my emotions get the best of me. And I hate how my sister doesn't know what happens to her father. And I hate that I am never gonna get to have a normal life

James: [as Guardian, interrupting Winn's romantic tryst with Lyra] Oh, my God! What are you doing?
Winn: Oh. Oh!
James: What are you doing? You're supposed to be watching out for me!
Winn: Guardian! Hey, man! Uh... you had those guys. I mean, you didn't need me.
Lyra: Yeah.
Winn: Great job, though.
Lyra: [sees through the Guardian disguise] Relax, James, you had 'em.
James: Wait, how did...
[to: ]
James: You told her?
Winn: I did not tell her.
James: [to Lyra:] Well, then, how do you know...?
Lyra: Humans all smell different.
[takes another whiff of Jimmy's scent]
Winn: Hey, Ly, what do I smell like?
Lyra: [takes whiff] You smell like honey.
Winn: Uh-huh!
[laughs, gets kissed]

Kara: Uh, you guys... hehe... I'm not quite sure how to tell you this...
Kara: Well, I do know how to tell you, I just...
James: Kara?
Kara: Yeah, right, sorry.
Kara: Uh, Barry... is from another universe.
Winn: Cool!

Tanya: You don't have to reveal yourself for me. I'm gonna give myself up. I wanna face them. I wanna fight.
James: No, no, no, Tanya. It is way too dangerous for that.
Tanya: No, I need to do this. For once, I need to take a risk and stand up for what I believe. I need to be myself.
James: Well, you're not doing this alone.

President: My fellow Americans, it has been a day since Supergirl's attack on the White House, in apparent retaliation for our repeal of the Alien Amnesty Act. While she and those with whom she conspired remain at large, I have an obligation to ensure the safety of all citizens. So, at 1900 hours today, I am imposing a sundown to sun-up curfew.
Mackenzie: [watching on TV at CatCo] They better catch her.
James: Supergirl did not do this.
President: Humans caught loitering will be cited. Aliens will be stopped by any means necessary. And to Supergirl, turn yourself in. We do not want a war with you, but we vow to use every asset in our power to see that justice is done.
Lena: [watching with Alex and Supergirl at L-Corp] Justice? What a crock.

Nia: I'm sorry Brainy couldn't design the Harun-El extractor without kickback, but I think we're all just happy you're okay.
James: Well, I'm just happy justice prevailed and Lockwood and his cohorts got locked up. And the injury reminds me that I'm human, which I started to miss.
Nia: Well, I'm just happy people are talking again and, you know, listening to facts.
Kara: Yeah. These have been some dark days. And I'll admit, there were some times where I thought we would never get out of it, but we didn't give up, and we kept chipping away until we brought the truth to light. Can you believe the Fourth Estate saved the day?

Tom: James Olsen?
James: In the flesh.
Tom: Wow. You're a lot bigger in person.

Kelly: Wait, that's you? You weren't at the diner? You were trapped down here? Those boys did this to you?
[hearing her younger self calling for James]
Kelly: Oh, my god, that's my voice.
Young: Down here, Kelly. Help!
Kelly: I was looking for you.
Bully: Dead daddy can't save you. You think your baby sister can? Pathetic loser.
James: I must have pushed the shame of this and the memories so far down, I forgot. I've told that diner story so many times, I believe it.

Tanya: Wait, hold up. You're Guardian?
James: Yep, just try not to put that on your social media. I'm trying it keep it on the low.
Tanya: Okay. Sorry. I just... that is so awesome. I-I had no idea. I thought you were just friends withn Supergirl, but you're super... well, not "man", uh, because that's already taken. But you're super.
James: They're super. I'm just Guardian.

Lena: Okay, you have got to stop listening to this dreck. Is that Ben Lockwood?
James: Do you know him?
Lena: Well, when I reorganized L-Corp, I took my business away from his father's steel shop and gave it to an Nth metal producer. Who the hell gave him a platform?
James: The People's Veritas, some sort of syndicated fringe website.
Lena: Oh, okay. Well, there you go. "Fringe" being the operative word.
James: Well, the last time I saw Ben Lockwood, he was a sad, angry man begging me to write his story. And now he and every lunatic like him is praising Guardian as if I'm one of them.
Lena: Well, I don't think the mayor would invite James Olsen to be the keynote speaker at his annual Media Summit if he thought he was some kind of fringe lunatic.
James: Wait, what?
Lena: The invitation just came in. That is what I came to tell you. Now, you need to stop obsessing about these trolls and start writing your speech.

James: There's still a chance that Supergirl can come back in time.
Lena: And if she doesn't? James, I don't know what to do.
James: What would Sam want you to do?
Lena: Sam wanted me to heal her.
James: No. Not what Sam wanted you to do. What would Sam want you to do now with the choice that you're presented with?
Lena: She'd choose Ruby, over anything. Even her own life. She'd want me to protect her daughter.
James: It's a difficult choice, but it sounds like you have the answer.

James: [after their flight, as she sets him down] Anybody...
[gasps for breath]
James: ever tell you that you're a lot faster than your cousin?
Supergirl: [smiles] No, actually.
James: Well, you are.
[gasps]
James: But
[still trying to catch breath]
James: your turns are kinda sharp.
Supergirl: Hey, no one likes a back-seat flier, okay?

Mackenzie: [looking at angry crowd on TV] What are they protesting?
James: Us.

James: Do not do this.
Tom: These are choices everyone has to make. It is my family first!
James: Do not let your anger become violence. There are lines that we do not cross.
Tom: Get out of my way!
[they get into a physical brawl, which ends with Tom on the ground in an armbar]
Tom: I just wanna protect my family. You'd do the same thing.
James: Not like this, I wouldn't.

James: I've been thinking about my suit.
Winn: Oh, please. I already have something in the works. Just trust me, okay? Do me a favor, do not run into the line of fire until it is ready. Deal?
James: [fist bumping] Deal.
Winn: And, have you thought of a superhero name? Every superhero needs a name.
James: I got one.
Winn: Well, are you gonna tell me?
James: When we're ready... everybody's gonna know it.

Ben: Listen, I owe you two an apology. I wasn't in the best place when last our paths crossed, but, uh... well, things... things are much better.
Lena: Excuse me. I'm gonna get a drink.
[to James]
Lena: See you in a few minutes.
James: Make that two, please.

James: Got to say, guys, I'm not a huge fan of this.
Querl: Intriguing. I should think discovering you're inflammable would be an emotional net-positive.
Nia: Flame-proof. How are you not more excited?
James: Because you're the exciting one. Not so mild-mannered cub reporter turned inspirational superhero? I'm just happy to say I knew you when.
Nia: Thanks, boss.
[holding up an alien hammer]
Nia: Now, I'm gonna hit you with this and we're gonna see what happens.
James: And I'm gonna ask you to turn it down, because I'm not ready for that yet.

James: [noticing Kara wince in pain] What is it?
Supergirl: Kryptonian sunstone. Mon-El found a frequency I can hear. Let's go.

Alex: Well, this should help take away the pain temporarily.
Kara: I don't understand. You think that whoever did this to you was also the person that released Midnight?
J'onn: Yes. He said he was my brother. At first, I didn't believe him, but now I know it must be true.
James: How do you know?
J'onn: This is specifically a Martian form of agony. In the early days of Mars, there were two brothers, Phobos and Deimos. Their rivaly and bloodshed was the reason for the split of the Green and White Martians. To prevent this ever happening again, a curse was placed on the Green Martians. We call it Fa'ra'too'rik. It is the punishment for brother attacking brother.
Kara: But you've never even mentioned having a brother.
J'onn: I never knew of one. Seems... unthinkable. But perhaps his existence was hidden from me by my parents.
Alex: And hidden by the entire Martian community by their hive mind?
Kara: Well, we're going to find him, but first we need to deal with your pain.
J'onn: There is no cure for this on this planet.
Querl: There is in the future. We treat afflicted Euphorians, an alien race with similar brain structure to Martians, with Q waves.
[Kara shrugs her confusion]
Querl: They're narrow waveforms that exist between X and gamma rays. You haven't heard of them because Q waves don't get discovered until sometime in the late dark ages.
Alex: Actually, uh, Kelly's been using Q waves as part of her brain-computer interface at Obsidian.

James: I'm just trying to keep you safe.
Kara: And, yes, I appreciate that. But of all the things the "S" stands for, safety is not one of them.

Mackenzie: Mr. Olsen, I wanted to pitch you a story, but it's, um...
James: [gesturing for her to sit down] Please.
Mackenzie: It's kind of sensitive.
James: Yeah, no worries.
Mackenzie: It's about L-Corp and Ms. Luthor. My source in the accouting department found a glitch in their numbers. Caught rumors of a black budget; he thinks it has to do with genetic testing.
James: Genetic testing isn't illegal.
Mackenzie: If it wasn't shady, why would they keep it off the books? So, can I follow the money?
James: Yeah. But send me what you have first. I want to vet it.

James: I've decided to hold a press conference to reveal that I'm Guardian.
Supergirl: No, you can't do that.
James: I have to do that. It's my only choice. It's already 4:00. In an hour, they're gonna out me anyway. This is the only leverage they have on me, so if I can get out ahead of this, I don't know, maybe I can cause them to shake up their plan or-or make a mistake.
Winn: Dude, that is just like that movie "Ransom", right? With the... the guy, his son gets kidnapped, and instead of paying the ransom, he, like, flips the tables.
[noticing Mon-El's look]
Winn: It's... I'm... spoilers. I just... I'm gonna...
Mon: They're just...
Winn: I'm gonna stop.
Mon: Thank you.

James: What's going on here, MacKenzie?
MacKenzie: It was just a dumb prank.
James: We respect people here.
MacKenzie: I'm sorry, Franklin.
James: [turning to leave, then turning back] You... you know what, guys, just humor me for a second. Like, I-I know it's late. Look, I know some of you are upset about what the president did. But that does not change who we are as a country, or as a publication. CatCo does not tolerate hate within these walls or on our pages. And it is our duty as journalists to expose the truth. And ignorance is our enemy, not each other.

James: So?
Lena: He had no idea. The look he gave me, he hadn't even considered it.
James: So everything he believed in is a lie?
Lena: And there's another thing. I think he's deteriorating because of the Harun-El.
James: That's not gonna happen to me, is it?
Lena: No. Ben injected the untested serum. And by tomorrow, it won't matter anyway. I'm working on an extraction.
James: [seeing Lockwood's car peel out] Is it just me, or is that a man who needs answers?
Lena: Maybe this wasn't such a dead end after all.

Kelly: I know you just came back from the dead, but you're about to wish that you didn't, because I called mom.
Kara: I think that's our cue.
James: No, she... don't leave me alone. Guys.

Winn: I have just been perusing Arthur's social media, and he just posted what looks like a manifesto.
J'onn: "To whom it concerns, so you understand why. For those who ruined my life, for the partners of Vang and Morales who spit on me when they fired me."
Winn: Vang and Morales, that is a law firm.
James: It's in the same business plaza as the bank where the cops spotted him. He-he wasn't robbing the bank.
J'onn: He's going back to his office.

James: What can I help you with?
Ben: Well... uh, I'll just ask you. Why doesn't CatCo cover the impact of extraterrestrial attacks on your average citizen?
James: I'm surprised to hear you say that, because we make our best effort to cover every side of every story, and our coverage on the Daxamite invasion and its aftermath did win us a Pulitzer.
Ben: I'm aware of that; it's a very beautifully written article, but it treats the story like it's over and done with. Uh, in my neighborhood, people have lost their jobs, people have lost possessions, people have lost... people have lost their homes. Um... I'm sorry, it's been a hell of a week. Let me just blow your mind here, okay? Home owner's insurance. Did you know that it doesn't actually cover alien invasion? Who knew?
James: We did, because we covered that in our Business section.
Ben: Right, and that's all the way in the back, and it turns the common person into numbers and statistics. I am here to tell you there are people behind these numbers. People who are hurting, and it would be so very helpful if you would just tell their stories, too.
James: Professor Lockwood, I appreciate your position, and I'm very sorry for what you've been going through.
Ben: Did you hear anything that I... this isn't about just me.
Eve: [entering] Uh, Mr. Olsen, I have Lena Luthor on the line for you.
James: I have to cut this short, but, um, you make some valid points, and I'll bring them up to Ms. Luthor.
Ben: Lena Luthor... what the hell does she have to do with any of this?
James: I'm not sure if you've heard, but she runs this place now.

James: Okay, where exactly are we going?
Lena: I told you, this guy has access to Edge's bank records. If Edge has been buying technology that can make those Kryptonian marks, this will lead us to him.
James: That's great, but I mean, literally, where are we going?
Lena: Jimmy Olsen, are you scared? Don't worry, I'll protect you.

James: Shelley Island? I thought this place was shut down after President Marsdin resigned.
Tom: Yeah, it was. That's why it's the perfect place for the Children of Liberty to gather.

Alex: How many guns did he buy?
Winn: Uh, let's see. Four that I can see.
J'onn: Get a strike team together.
James: Wait, wait, wait. A strike team?
J'onn: What do you want me to do, James?
James: Look, i-if you send your guys out there with the same weapons as him, it's gonna turn into a war zone.
J'onn: I need my guys to be armed to defend themselves, and protect the public. We're not the bad guys here.
James: Sometimes without trying, we can be part of the problem.

J'onn: I heard you went into a bank robbery, with some kind of concerning weaponry. Alien guns again?
James: I would say DEO weaponry.
[indicating an assault rifle on the table]
James: This one, to be exact.
J'onn: A DEO assault rifle? What? No, that's impossible. After Agent Schott's mother raided this place, I had every weapon in here microchipped.
James: Look, J'onn, I-I saw it, I felt it. It was yours.
Winn: Yeah, w-we even did a ballistics test out on the firing range.
James: [with effort, Winn shows J'onn the battered shield] Yeah, we shot this weapon at that shield from the same distance.
J'onn: Which one was which?
James: Can't tell, can you?
Winn: Because the impact is identical.
J'onn: That's just impossible. We use proprietary technology, guns solely designed for our use.
James: Somebody shot this weapon at me and a cop, and he got away. I just want to catch the guy because if he has this one, he might have ten more. We are down one bulletproof superhero, so I suggest that we follow the only lead that we have at this point.

James: He knows?
Winn: What, you told him?
Supergirl: James already knew. And Winn's my friend.
Winn: Yeah.
Supergirl: If I'm going to be a hero, and prove to everyone that I know what I'm doing, I'm gonna need to practice. Start... small, get better. And to do that, I'm gonna need your help.
James: I'm in.
Winn: I... I... I said it first.

James: [Kara leaves Cat's office] She's pretty tense working on that article, huh?
Kara: Yeah, you could say that.
James: She always get like this when she's writing?
Kara: People have been known to schedule their vacations around it.

James: Hey, I saw you on "Counterpoint Daily". I-I'm really sorry to put you out there like that last minute.
Kara: I just worry that this manifesto really is a harbinger of something terrible.
Querl: In the text, we found numerous hidden messages, but even the most threatening was about charcuterie.

Eliza: How did things go with your Children of Liberty contact? Doesn't seem very safe, James.
James: I happened to meet with a regular guy named Tom who happens to be afraid of aliens and afraid of their capabilities, and he feels inferior.
Kara: People can be powerful, too. You and Alex are examples of that, James.
Lena: Yeah, but not as powerful as aliens. I mean, no matter how many weights you lift, you'll never be as strong as Supergirl.
Alex: No, but with technology, we can hold our own.
Lena: What if we could do more? What if we could make people super?
Eliza: It's not possible. The biological processes that cause alien powers are incompatible with human DNA.
Lena: Okay, but just say we could, right? If James is right and people feeling inferior is what makes them join these hate groups, then we could just... level the playing field.
J'onn: The last thing we need is a bunch of evil people running around with superpowers.
Lena: Okay, but evil people wouldn't get powers.
James: So only certain people qualify?
Alex: And who would decide who gets them? They'd be playing God.

James: You guys all know that I've been doing a lot of soul searching since I left CatCo. Trying to figure out what's next. I knew I wanted to give back, and I wanted to help people. But I was driving myself crazy trying to figure out where to put those efforts. And then my extremely wise sister gave me some damn good advice. She said "stop trying so hard to figure things out, and just be still and listen." And finally I heard it. Only it wasn't a voice from inside of me, it was this kid's voice, this-this kid that we met in Calvintown. Sadly, it's become this cesspool for crime and corruption. And he told me that-that... no one there's willing to help. There's nobody willing to stand up and do the right thing. There-there's nobody willing to put their neck on the line. And just like that, that's what I knew I had to do. Look, I've been fighting the good fight from a fancy corner office for years. And in the streets of National City as Guardian. But I started off as a guy with a camera. A camera our dad gave me. Among the people. And that is where I need to be. For now, I'm going back to Calvintown. I'm going home. And I am gonna show that town that there is somebody who is willing to fight for them. I'm gonna buy the Calvintown Gazette.
Kara: Wow.
James: Look, Andrea Rojas may be able to stop me from writing for a newspaper, but she can't stop me from publishing one.
Kara: That's amazing. And what are we gonna do without you?
James: One of the main reasons I moved to National City was because Clark wanted me to keep an eye on you. But you're the one that kept an eye on me. You never needed me. Not then, and certainly not now.

James: Any leads on tracking the gun owner?
Winn: Listen, we were only able to identify, like, ten percent of the people that actually purchased the Heel-14, and-and that is with state-of-the-art tracking.
James: So what's the next move?
J'onn: Old-fashioned police line-up. We need you to look at some photos, James, see if you recognize the guy who bought the gun. Winn, let's start with the guys that purchased more than one weapon.
Winn: [typing on his tablet] Okay.
James: [Winn puts a mugshot array on the screens] That's him. Bottom right corner. Arthur Willis.
Winn: [more typing] Okay. Arthur Willis. Are you sure? 'Cause this-this says that he passed his instant background check at the gun show. He has no history of mental health issues. I mean, he doesn't seem like a threat.
James: I don't forget a face.

Lena: Who are you meeting with?
James: I don't know.
Lena: Where are you meeting them?
James: They're gonna call me fifteen minutes beforehand.
Lena: So it's an undisclosed location with unknown contacts. This is how journalists end up dead, James.
James: Most journalists are not me.
Lena: So it doesn't matter what I think.
James: Not about this. This is work.
Lena: Oh, this is work. Well, then your boss has booked a major television appearance for you. So figure it out.

James: [watching news reports of Baker's removal from office] Talk about power of the press.
Kara: Says my injured friend. I still can't believe what happened to your eye.

Kara: I just wanted to talk to you about infinite Earths.
James: Infinite Earths?
Kara: Yeah. Uh, Barry was saying...
James: Barry was saying?
Kara: Yeah, Barry was explaining to us that there's an infinite number of Earths and they all vibrate at different speeds so they can occupy the same space, but never actually come into contact with each other. The point is, if two of these infinite Earths can manage find a way to vibrate at the exact same speed, maybe... Maybe there's a chance they can be together.
James: Kara... what are you trying to say?
Kara: No more saying. I'm so much better doing this.
[kisses James]

Kara: Do you have time to grab lunch?
James: You must be hungry. You probably burn up a lot of calories fighting an ax-wielding alien.

Supergirl: [with folded arms, to Jimmy, who's been exposed as Guardian] I am calm. I am going to listen to you. I owe you that much. But you need to tell me why.
James: Because that thing that you feel, that thing that makes you want to make everything better? I feel that too.

James: So, I met this local kid who says his mom is serving ten years for petty theft? So I did some digging, and that prison in your backyard, it seems to have a lot of people serving long sentences for small crimes.
Nelson: Yeah, people have bad luck, I guess.
James: Bad luck? It's prison corruption, wouldn't you say?
Nelson: It's, um... it's complicated. Look, I wish I could help you, but...
James: You can help me, Nelson. That's why I'm here. Journalism's about fighting for the little guy, you taught me that. It's your job to point out corruption, so what the hell's going on here?
Nelson: Things have, uh, changed for some people. Idealism doesn't feed a family. And this whole power of the press thing, it might work if you've got the backing of a media conglomerate and a certain girl with a cape. But around here, it doesn't mean anything.
James: Standing up for what's right always means something. Nelson. That prison is stomping on the neck of this entire town.
Nelson: It's also the only thing that's keeping this town alive. Look, I'd love to see these bastards get what they deserve. But if I call them out, my advertisers, they pull their money, not only am I out of a job but so are the 30 other people I employ. Go back to National City. I like to think of you there. You know, I'm just glad somebody made it out of this town. And I'm glad it was you.

M'yrnn: "The Cook, the Thief, His Wife & Her Lover."
Alex: What?
J'onn: Cheating again. Come on, dad, no mind reading.
M'yrnn: You keep accusing me of not following the rules. You are one to talk.
[J'onn is confused]
M'yrnn: My son used to wait for me to leave, and the moment I had gone, he would switch around the pieces on the Ok-Rock-Tock board. When I caught him, he blamed his imaginary friend... what was his name?
James: Wait, wait, wait. I'm sorry. You had an imaginary friend?
J'onn: No, I...
M'yrnn: Oh, yes, he did. You said he was a fifth-dimensiona imp who came just to move the pieces. What was his name?
J'onn: [giving in] Zook.
M'yrnn: Zook!
Alex: [amused] Zook!
M'yrnn: "Zook! Zook did it! It was Zook!" That was you.

Kara: If I'm expected to put Supergirl on hold just to write this article for you, then maybe being a reporter isn't a good idea.
James: What are... what are you saying?
Kara: I'm saying I have important things to do, but not here at CatCo. Not as a reporter, not as Kara Danvers.
James: Kara, don't do this.
Kara: I quit.

Lena: Listen, I am less concerned with CatCo's response to this than who's doing this and why. The first appearance of this symbol, the crop circle, was on L-Corp property.
James: So you think this is personal?
Lena: I think it's Morgan Edge. That man has a vendetta against me, and believe me, he will go to any lengths. Plus, he's the only man who has the tech and the resources to pull something like this off. It's gotta be Edge.
James: Oh, I think it's time we pay that Don Johnson wannabe a visit.
Lena: No, I was gonna go on my own.
James: Not a chance.

Alex: I used the DEO satellite to scan the highway where you fought Reactron, and I was able to isolate the nuclear signature of his weapons system. It's powered by thorium 232, which can only be found in one place.
Kara: Bakerline Nuclear Power Station.
Winn: I remember this. Uh, terrorists tried to start a full-on meltdown, like... like, five years ago. But then...
James: Superman stopped them.
Alex: Yeah, he prevented the core from going into overload, saved millions of people. But two reactor engineers were killed when the facility was flooded with radiation. Ben and Alyssa Krull. They were married.
Kara: [recognizing Krull's picture] Ben Krull is Reactron.
Alex: Yeah. He somehow survived the radiation exposure.
Kara: That's why he hates my cousin. He blames him for the death of his wife.
James: But Superman still managed to prevent an American Chernobyl.
Winn: [a thought strikes him] Chernobyl. That gives me an idea how we might find Krull.

James: Lena Luthor calling me. What's up?
Lena: I really needed to hear your voice.
James: Everything okay?
Lena: I owe you an apology.
James: What for?
Lena: For ghosting you. For keeping secrets. But it's time to be honest.
James: About?

Supergirl: James, are you okay?
James: Yeah.
Supergirl: Oh, no. Your dad's camera.
James: Who were those guys?

Lena: There's something between us, something good. But in my life, in my work, there are people who count on my discretion. So I won't always be able to share everything with you.
James: If you think a secret needs to be kept, then it needs to be kept.
Lena: Well, I appreciate that.
James: Tell me it's going well, at least?
Lena: Not yet. But it will.

James: You might consider calling your cousin on this one. I've seen what Reactron can do.
Kara: James, if I call for help now, I'm done. We're done. Every villian out there will think of National City as an easy target.
James: He nearly killed Clark once.
Winn: Clark?
[seeing James' expression, realization dawns on him]
Winn: Clark... Clark Kent is Superman.

Nia: I just witnessed a business owner refuse to serve an alien, and then assualt him.
James: Yeah. We're getting a lot of calls like that lately. And it-it's good for us to follow up on these types of stories, so that people know how these businesses are treating aliens.
Nia: Absolutely, but... it's bigger than that. Mr. Olsen, I really think we need a statement from our Editor-in-Chief. Aliens are being subjected to hate crimes like never before.
James: It is horrible, which is why we are reporting on this kind of stuff. We are. But... I have to think strategically. You know, this is not the best time for me to write an editorial.
Nia: I know you've been under a lot of scrutiny since unmasking as Guardian. You have another chance to fight for justice now.

Supergirl: What happened? Are you okay?
James: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Tanya: They came for me.
James: You'll never believe who the heavy was. Olivia.
Supergirl: Olivia? But... but she was the first one to turn on Coville at the stadium.
Tanya: Yeah, you're right. She was lost after that. More than the rest, but she kept visiting him in prison.
Supergirl: You should've called me.
Tanya: Oh! Guardian had it handled. Don't worry, I'm not gonna start a church or anything.

Kara: Everything okay?
James: Yeah. Uh... Lena booked me on this round-table thing.
Kara: That's great.
[seeing his expression]
Kara: Isn't... isn't that great?
James: Um... she should have told me first, you know? Okay, so, I made plans to meet with somebody from Children of Liberty, and now she wants me to go on a TV show and denounce them.
Kara: Well, she... so she's worried about your image as Guardian.

Kara: I know Lena can be forceful, but she protects the ones she loves.
James: She's not always right.
Kara: She's right most of the time.
James: Whose side are you on?
Kara: I'm on both of your sides.
James: But I'm still not doing the round-table.
Kara: I can do it.
James: No. No, no, no. No, it's-it's only in a few hours, and there's a lot of preparation that needs to be done, and half the newsroom is gone 'cause of the holiday. I mean... No.
Kara: Well, that's fine. I'll-I'll just ask Nia to help me. Where...?
James: [seeing Nia at her desk] You-Y-You mean Nia Nal, the one who's literally asleep on the job?
Kara: No, she's not asleep...
[seeing Nia facedown]
Kara: Oh.

James: Wait, he wants you to move to the future?
Winn: I know, dude. It's... it's insane. Right? And-and... plus, I don't know where to begin to solve a problem like that. Like, I... I don't know what Brainy was thinking, but he is malfunctioning.
James: Or he's thinking you're the smartest dude he knows.
Winn: [tossing the case Brainy gave him on the table] Oh, and then there's this.
James: [walking over to look] And what is "then there's this"?
Winn: Oh, you know, just my design. Brainy brought it back from the future. I... apparently, it's... it's an artifact, and my apparatus saved countless lives or something.

James: My name is James Olsen. And I believe in the Children of Liberty, and everything they stand for. Only humans belong on Earth.
Supergirl: [faintly] James!
[he turns the bomb on]
Supergirl: James!
[the bomb is activated]
Supergirl: JAMES!

James: So, Imra's telepathic?
Mon: Uh, no, it's kinetic. You know, she moves stuff, not reads minds.
James: Ah. That's kind of a cool party trick. Can she move you?
Mon: [amused laugh] Yeah, she's, uh... she's pretty impressive.
James: Well, she's gotta be. You never were into wallflowers.

Kara: Alex, you remember, um... James Olsen, my friend from work.
Alex: Yeah.
James: [quietly] How's the covert alien hunting business?
Alex: Not as covert as we would prefer.
Kara: I didn't tell him.
James: Look, it's okay. I can be trusted with a big secret.
Alex: Well, I hope you'll extend the same courtesy to my sister.
James: Always.

Lena: James, I really wish you'd call first.
James: Yeah, I tried that for a week. I just, uh... figured maybe I had better luck in person.
Lena: Listen, I'm sorry, I'm in the middle of an emergency.
James: Oh. I'm sorry. Is everything okay, or...?
Lena: An employee of mine asked for help with a problem. And now that I've diagnosed a solution, they don't want to accept it.
James: Sounds like they need an intervention.
Lena: Tried that. It's not going well.
James: You know, I had a roommate in college. Great guy, but he-he started taking something, I'm not sure what it was, but he would come home all hours of the night and just... just tear the place apart. You know, I-I-I tried to tell him that... that he had a problem, but-but he never wanted to hear it. So I just kept cleaning up after him.
Lena: Did he ever acknowledge what was wrong with him?
James: See, that's the thing. No matter how bad you wanna help somebody, all you can really do is hold up a mirror.

Kara: Hey, thanks again for taking in Mon-El.
James: You make him sound like some sort of stray puppy.
Kara: He is. He's an outer space stray puppy.
James: I gotta admit, I'm a little jealous of him. You know, everything is so brand new and exciting.
Kara: Well, I mean, yeah, he's got a lot to learn, though. But he does have me to guide him. He will be an Earthling in no time. Way faster than I was.
