100 Best Continuum Quotes

Matthew: I've read the dossiers on these board members. There's no Kirk, there's no Picard. They barely have a Geordi. Stop laying their game.

Edouard: [In the future of 2076] You're a Protector! Who are you protecting now who are these people a threat to?
Kiera: Well they're not too fond of me!
Edouard: Fond or not They seem to care about your wellbeing!

[first lines]
Edouard: Twenty years ago, when the corporations bailed out our failed governments, they sold it to us as salvation. Now we see that we have paid for that rescue with our freedoms. We have awakened to the truth; we have become slaves to the corporate congress. Today, all that changes. Let the word go forth from this time and place to friend and foe alike that we have passed the torch to a new generation unwilling to permit the undoing of human rights and dignities. And let every corporation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price in order to assure the survival and success of liberty.

Travis: We came back here to change things, not embrace them.

Vasquez: [heavily armed] Let him go.
Matthew: [to Kiera, pleading] Don't let me go.

Kiera: I know you don't have all the answers you're looking for right now, but if you don't follow the path of destiny that shapes the future as I know it, the world won't end up as it did in my time.
Alec: Is that necessarily a bad thing?
Kiera: I want to go home. I want to get back to my family. And the only way I'm gonna be able to do that is if things stay on track.
Alec: Kiera, when you tried to stop that bombing, did you know that you were possibly throwing away a chance of getting home?
Kiera: I didn't have a choice.
Alec: Yes, you did.
Kiera: Choose to let hundreds of innocent people die?
Alec: Don't be so naive. These decisions are gonna keep coming up. At a certain point, you're gonna have to choose between protecting the future for your unborn family or protecting the future for yourself and those of us who are alive now.

Matthew: Seems the women has changed her mind. She is a heart breaker.

Kiera: Liberate is a terrorist organization.
Professor: So was Sinn Féin, the ANC, and the Founding Fathers of the United States to the Red Coats.

Matthew: So are you guys planning a real-estate takeover? Do we renovate our way to a better future?

Edouard: What the corporation cannot own, it destroys.

Alec: [to Julian] It's actually, quite beautiful. Full of new ideas, new perspective. Maybe if I don't become the evil corporate overload of the future, maybe you can go on to become Mother freaking Teresa. And maybe, in future, we're not trying to kill each other.

Kiera: You are a leader of men Carlos Fonnegra.
Carlos: Yeah, men.

Kiera: [investigating a shooting at a college campus] There's no powder residue. Not on anybody's hands.
Carlos: Can't find Cantor's shell casings, either.
Kiera: That's not right.
Carlos: Does this feel a little Kent State to you?
Kiera: [confused] Failed student revolution?
Carlos: [scoffs] Never mind. I don't even know why I brought it up.

Kiera: What if you could save tens of thousands of people?
Carlos: Yeah, who wouldn't want to do that?
Kiera: Even if it meant killing one person?
Carlos: I know this game. If you could go back in time and kill Hitler?
Kiera: What's your answer?
Carlos: I would kill Hitler.

Green: This is like kidnapping!
Carlos: No, this is *exactly* kidnapping.

Catherine: Are you saying you're committed?
Kiera: I'm saying I'm not asleep any more.

Ann: Just let me explain.
Alec: Explain what? Why you lied in a court of law? That's perjury, you can go to jail.
Ann: You don't understand.
Alec: Do you know what you've done? I'm supposed to testify tomorrow.
Ann: And I'm not asking you to lie, Alec.
Alec: Well, if I tell the truth, then I send my mother to jail. If I lie, then I risk sending us both.
Ann: Look, Julian needs our protection. He has no one else.
Alec: Julian shot a police officer in cold blood. He tried to blow up a building, he was ready to do it. He doesn't deserve our protection.
Ann: He's family, Alec. Families do not turn their backs on one another.
Alec: No. Apparently, they throw one another to the wolves and then fight over the scraps.

Sonya: We can fix this. We can still fight for what we believe in.
Travis: I don't know what that is any more.
[all walk away in different directions]

Betty: I am strictly white hat. I mean, I like to poke around systems, but I clean up my campsite.

Alec: [to Kiera about his other self] It's better if he doesn't know.

Edouard: [to an unconscious kiera] Kiera
[chuckles]
Edouard: pretty name.

Curtis: Catherine isn't his disciple. She's his jailer.

[first lines]
Alec: [arriving in the past] Holy shit!
Female: Call security!

Carlos: Sorry.
Inspector: For what?
Carlos: For this.
[hit him hard knocking him out]
Kiera: You shouldn'ta done that.

[last lines]
Emily: [to Alec] You. I choose you.

Ted: What happened to him?
Kiera: The future.

Old: Each of us is judged by what we leave behind.

Carlos: If you eliminate the impossible, whatever is left over, however improbable, that's gotta be the truth.

Brad: You might want to secure the attitude, kid. She just saved your life.
Alec: Who are you any how?
Kiera: Different timeline.

[last lines]
Edouard: [to Travis] Welcome to your new home.

[last lines]
Kiera: [as young Alec walks away] What are you up to, old man?
[the POV moves past behind her as the path she stands on is flooded. The tree dies, is cut to a stump, then it too vanishes. A crane in the distance starts building a barrier. Another joins it. Deforestation creeps up the hill across the water. The city sprouts new, taller skyscrapers as dusk and night fall. A CPS aircraft hoves into view, then veers off to reveal a floating advertising platform, the same as Keira's husband looked at at the start. The older Alec Sadler is at its center, looking down. He pulls up his sleeves, then goes to his desk to record a message. On a virtual screen, his words appear in all-caps. It's the computer taking dictation, but with minor punctuation omitted]
Older: I speak to you, not as who you'll become, but as an old man who knows you best. You and I were given a gift from our father. He died young, but he imparted in us a passion for technology and innovation. What you need to know, what I tried to do... Listen to me carefully, Alec: I have gone down a dangerous path and I have taken the world with me. Only you can prevent this future from happening.
[Mr. Sadler turns around to the other half of his desk and accesses the CPS database, it rising as a cylinder of photos. He scrolls through a list of agents in the air, stopping on the record for "Cameron Kiera". A virtual "Transfer Data" button appears on the desk's surface, which he presses. A line shoots forward, makes a 90-degree turn right, then another 90 degrees upward to the record. Vectorized blocks of data rise from the desk along the line as her CMR interface accepts the upload]
Kiera: [waking from the nightmare, touching her temples] *NO*!
[On Mr. Sadler's display appears the words "Upload Complete"]

Alec: The interface can access the geotemporal matrix.
Kiera: OK, look, I may be from the future, but that doesn't mean I speak the language.

Matthew: Listen, I'm sorry about Sonya. And Lucas.
[pauses, calmly]
Matthew: What about Garza? Is she still alive?
Travis: It's hard to believe you are one of us.

Alec: [preparing body] She'll be every where and every when.
Carlos: A viking funeral...

[last lines]
Alec: You there?
Kiera: Yeah, I'm here.
Alec: I don't know how to say this.
Kiera: Just say it, Alec.
Alec: Your journey here was no accident. The time travel device didn't malfunction, and Kagame knew this. The truth is, I'm the one who sent you back in time. And you're not going to believe why.

Kiera: I was wrong.
Alec: Just get me out of here. And then you can go to hell.

Inspector: I always knew there was a glass ceiling. I just didn't know I'd be cutting my own throat breaking through it.

Matthew: [to Kiera over phone] I'm the last person in the world you can trust, which is way, in this case, you need to trust me.

Vasquez: You think it's all about you?
Matthew: Every time I look in the mirror.

Kiera: Every monster starts off as someone's baby.

Dr. Fairweather: [Kiera Just Assaulted Agent Gardiner which triggered a Cognitive therapist] Officer Cameron, you just threatened the life of a fellow officer. I'm Mr. Fairweather... from CPS... I'm here to do your psych review. We're concerned that you're a danger to yourself... and to others, so I've taken you Offline.

[Julian in the mess hall notices two men eying him, feeling nervous. Another man sits down next to him, looks around, then speaks to Julian]
Gus: Don't worry. We got your back. Anyone so much as looks at your cross-eyed, the Coalition Kings will tune 'em up. The name's Gus.
[Gus offers a handshake]
Julian: [doesn't take it] Thanks.
Gus: Don't thank me. Thank that Sonya chick. She's making sure you're the safest guy inside these walls.

Sonya: Fight or flight, protector. They're both bad choices.

Kiera: [comes walking in a little beleaguered]
Alec: What happened to you?
Kiera: Travis happened.

Matthew: Incredible.
Alec: What do you want?
Matthew: You know who I am? Right. Well, believe it or not, I know a little bit about who you are as well. Maybe even more than you know about yourself.
Alec: Look, if Kiera sent you here to talk me into whatever...
Matthew: No, Kiera didn't send me. You know I- I had a job like this, once, way back - or is that "way forward"? - mopping floors and cleaning toilets. Good, honest work my father called it. I hated that job but I guess it did teach me something.
Alec: What's that?
Matthew: Well, first off, money and power doesn't mean your shit doesn't stink. More importantly, the only thing separating me and the future I wanted was will. I had the talent and the ambition, all I needed was a chance. The problem is, of course, you're rarely given that chance; more often than not you've got to take it. So one day, on my knees cleaning up where some idiot had missed with his piss, I did.
Alec: And what did you do?
Matthew: I quit. I scratched and clawed and willed myself into my own business. I put all that hard work into Kellog Incorporated.
Alec: And here you are today... you've come a long way.
Matthew: That's one way to put it.
Alec: Look, what does any of this have to do with me?
Matthew: Oh, I don't know. Let's just say that both of our futures rely on your own will. All you have to do is, is look down and realize...
Matthew: [whispering] that you're on your knees too.
Matthew: Only difference is, you're... a... genius. Anyway, listen, I'm uh, I'm lookin' to set up a new venture, cutting edge stuff. Also looking for talented visionaries to do visionary work. You know, mold the future, all that jazz. Hey, money is no object.
Manager: Uh, are you being taken care of, sir?
Matthew: Why yes, thank you. Alec here is taking very good care of me. He knows his stuff! You know something, I'd be careful if I were you. 'Cause someone might just, uh, just come along and... and poach him away.
Manager: Wonderful. Uh, have a... good day sir. Um, Alec, uh, when you're done with this customer, can you drop by my office? My printer's jammed.
Matthew: Printer jams. How novel. You know there's no paper in the future? Or should I say, "no future in paper"?
[Kellog offers Alec a business card. Alec takes it]
Matthew: Drop by for a chat unless you've made up your mind. In-credible.

Kiera: [wondering] You trying to get rid of me?
Alec: [chuckling] I definitely am.

Kiera: Enjoy your cage!
Stefan: Even in a cage I'm freer than you'll ever be.

Kiera: Given the Robin Hood act that Liber8 has been putting on, this atrocity doesn't make sense for them.
Insp. Dillon: Well, fanatics are not in the business of making sense.

Jaden: If we save the Protector's life they'll be grateful.
Mariah: [Enraged] Graciousness is not their primary virtue.

Alec: [Alec watches Kiera who is in her underwear thru her CMR w/o her consent] You're so Pretty
Kiera: [Noticing Alec ogles her via her CMR] Not cool...

Carlos: I can't believe I'm actually defending the little shit bird who shot me, but right now, Julian is a scared kid.
Kiera: Fear is a powerful motivator.

Matthew: Killing me won't solve your immediate problem.
Kiera: But it will make me feel *so* much better.

Samantha: [being arrested] You're strong baby, but it's not everything. I love you...

[last lines]
Kiera: My name is Kiera Cameron, and I came here from the year 2077.

Matthew: [after CPR] Bitch! You tried to drown me!
Kiera: You were poisoned, I had to flush your lungs with water. I saved your life.
Matthew: You got to kiss me, so we're even.

Carlos: So that's how it's gonna be?
Kiera: What?
Carlos: I'm Commissioner Gordon and you're...
Kiera: Ooo, I know this one... I thought...
Carlos: Eh, forget it.

Lucas: Tools always backfire.

Curtis: This is a war, Kiera. And every war has one thing in common with every other war.
Kiera: Death.
Curtis: And sacrifice.

Emily: You're not just responsible for what you do with you invention, Alec. You're also responsible for what others do with it.

[last lines]
Older: [watching from a distance] This is the price for making the world a better place. This Sam will grow up in a world free of violence, free of revolution, free of corruption. His future is bright. And it's because of you, Kiera. It's the price of love. Real love. You'll understand... in time.

Curtis: Bitch cop wants to come with us.
Kiera: Bitch cop does.

Manager: Sadler, do you have any idea why all of the network passwords aren't working?
Alec: Oh, yeah, sorry, I forgot to tell you about that. Um, I had to flash the router with OpenWRT in order to put up a new firewall.
Manager: And, why did you do that?
Alec: Well, um, actually you'll be happy to know that I recalibrated the network so that 46% of the customers can now use the automated checkout system. That'll save on labor costs by 15% and decrease customer wait times by a minute and 30 seconds on average.
Manager: Is that right.
Alec: Yeah, and you don't have to do sales reports anymore; it's all automated now.
Manager: No... sales reports.
Alec: Nope, poof, gone! Straight to head office. In fact, the efficiency of the system as a whole is nearly tripled; it's 256% to be exact.
Manager: Okay. Sadler, here's what's gonna happen: first, you're gonna get me a coffee; then you're going to undo all this mumbo jumbo. None of this was even approved by head office.
Alec: This'll save the company money!
Manager: [patronizing] Look, I know what it's like to be young and ambitious and think I have the answers to everything, but you can't go messing with the system because you think you have a better way of doing things.
Alec: But I'm telling you...
Manager: [firmly] No look, I'm telling you to reset the network to the way that it was and do the job that I hired you to do! I can un-hire you just as easily. Oh, and that coffee? Make it black.

Carlos: Maybe we should skip to the end, where they call *us* protectors.

Kiera: What do they want?
Warren: What anybody wants - power - control.
Kiera: I don't want that.
Warren: Are you sure?

Kiera: Who... killed me?

Carlos: [to Travis after he kicked Solomon against the glass-wall of his lockup] You want to kill your lawyer? Go ahead, I'll sell tickets.

Agent: You're gonna answer some questions.
Kiera: About what?
Agent: The city plaza bombing; about what happened afterwards. I saw you, I saw-... I saw you survive the explosion, the fireball... and then vanish.
Kiera: Yeah, that. I'm a stranded time traveler from the year 2077, using technology that hasn't even been invented yet.
Agent: That's bullshit.
Kiera: So is there anything else you'd like to talk about?
Agent: Yes. I want to know about the mayor, Liber8... Tell me about Alec Sadler.

Matthew: [walkng into the portal] I choose me!

Matthew: Women like you are rare - past, present, or future. That's rare in any time.
Kiera: Wow, thank you...
[walking away]
Matthew: Don't you have anything nice you want to say to me?
Kiera: Not really...

Alec: So Dr. Feelweird cut us off? Unbelievable!

Old: [to Kiera's husband] If Kiera has paid the ultimate price for her loyalty to the corporation, it will not go unnoticed.

Kiera: [to Travis] It's getting harder and harder to decide which path to take. Which decisions are the right ones. I want to do right by everyone, without sacrificing what I need.

Edouard: You really don't understand how important you are, do you?
Alec: No, I understand more than you realize. What I don't understand is how you and your gang could possibly think you could change the inevitable.
Edouard: A pebble tossed from a beach can become a tsunami on the other side of the world. You are that pebble, and I am standing on a beach on the other side of time! Waiting for the tidal wave to crash.
Alec: Yeah, you're standing on a beach, and you're facing a tsunami, but you only have a bucket to change it. And yeah, you can scoop out a small amount of water from that wave, and change history slightly. But that's it. The wave still hits and it'll probably drown you. And if I'm that pebble, then progress and innovation is the wave. And it will make the world a better place. And that you can't change.
Edouard: But that's precisely my point, Alec. You're the one who convinced me I can.

Agent: So, are we gonna do this?
Kiera: You and me working together?
Agent: Uh-huh.
Kiera: What have we got to lose?

Kiera: If they haven't been born yet, we haven't had the chance to leave them.

Matthew: [to Kiera and Alec] People change all the time. And the time is present.
[pauses, murmurs quickly]
Matthew: Unless my timing is all wrong.

Emily: Never mess with a girl who shows up with a propensity for deadly force.

[last lines]
Kiera: May I ask you a personal question, Matthew?
[stroking Kellogg's left side of the face]
Matthew: [smirks] Anything.
Kiera: [brings her right-hand down to Kellogg's bottom-lip and leaves only her thumb there] If nobody can trust you, how can you trust you?
[Lifts her thumb by twitching Kellogg's bottom-lip]

Carlos: Are you ok?
Kiera: When darkness falls and fear sets in he'll be the one the nightmares bring With the blackest soul and coldest core he'll paint a "T" across your door.
Carlos: I don't remember that one.

[last lines]
amnesiac: I know why I left. I volunteered.

[Travis' reaction after listening to constant gunshots, explosions and voices of policemen]
Travis: [to Kellogg about the "rescue" mission by soldiers of his future-self] You think you *deserve* all this?
Matthew: Somebody does.

[second season opening title sequence]
Kiera: 2077. My time, my city, my family. When terrorists killed thousands of innocents, they were condemned to die. They had other plans. A time travel device sent us all back 65 years. I want to get home, but I can't be sure what I will return to if history is changed. Their plan? To corrupt and control the present in order to win the future. What they didn't plan on, was me.

Carlos: What is that?
Alec: A tethered wormhole.
Carlos: Uh, you wanna explain that to me like I *don't* have a degree in Physics...

Kiera: [pointing her gun at Curtis] You have a bad habit of appearing from the shadows.
Curtis: Maybe I'm leading you into the light.
[Kiera puts her gun down]

Alec: Please don't kill me.
Jasmine: I'm not killing you. I'm saving the world.

Alec: [remembering Lucas] Every star in the universe eventually dies out. Darkness always conquers light.

Edouard: Kellog is resourceful.

[In the restroom, Julian gets out of the stall, goes to wash his hands. Gus moves to act as lookout. Another prisoner, also washing his hands, surreptitiously pulls out a shiv. As two more enter, the one with the shiv attacks and stabs Gus repeatedly, then approaches Julian]
Julian: No, hold on, wait, wait, wait, wait.
Syndicate: Look, I'm not going to hurt you, nobody's gonna hurt you, I guarantee that. Look, I promised Travis: the Syndicate has your back now.

Matthew: He's having full blown hallucinations. He's convinced Kagame's still alive. Sonya thinks it's time travel - he's been scrambled.
Kiera: Temporal dislocation. Yeah, I've seen it.
Matthew: You've felt it?
Kiera: [no] You?
Matthew: Only when I'm with you.

Alec: I don't know why you're letting Gardiner help you.
Kiera: Give a dog a bone, he'll chew on it for hours.

[first lines]
Travis: [to Carlos] You want a confession from me because I'm a villain. I'm a bad man. But that's not all, is it? I'm a special kind of bad man. A freak. When people find out about me, they find out about all the other freaks.
[looking around]

Sonya: We'll always be hunted. I'm afraid.

Kiera: How much time?
Dr. Fairweather: I'd like to see you operationally functional in an hour.
Kiera: And if I'm not?
Dr. Fairweather: If I find you at less than 80 percent efficiency, the memory that is causing you the most distress will be erased.

Kiera: [taunting Dillon] In the fairy tales I've heard, the hero enters the den to *slay* the dragon. Not to join him.

Alec: I'm 18, and I'm supposed to change the world, and I'm afraid I won't, and I'm afraid I will!

Jason: You know, there are other time jumpers here.
Kiera: You mean the terrorists?
Jason: Terrorists? Liber8? They're here too?
Kiera: Yeah.
Jason: Oh, no. That's bad. That's, that's bad. That's really bad. No, I'm talking about the privateers. The, uh, freelancers. Mr. Escher.

Old: Speak your mind. So few people do nowadays.

Stan: Time travel's just not some technological marvel - it's the family business.

Kiera: [Still in Review by the Cognitive Therapist] Whatever's in Betty's computer is going to present a pretty convincing case.
Dr. Fairweather: So what're you going to do about it?
Kiera: If I'm stuck here, I'm not going down without a fight.
Dr. Fairweather: [nods in agreement] Program terminated, System restored.

Alec: You know, sometimes you look at me and I get this horror movie chill.
Kiera: [long stare]
